howardbc Posted June 1, 2013 at 05:29 PM Report Share Posted June 1, 2013 at 05:29 PM Okay, I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking that it would be so awesome if the Fusion Energi had the range of an EV (at least 70 miles), plus be a hybrid. I mean, I love the car but I got spoiled after the first time the EV battery cells were depleted. For a while I was fooling myself that the car was getting better MPG in hybrid mode than my Prius, but that was stupid of me because the Fusion Energi weighs 1000 pounds more than the Prius. In fact, someone on this forum set me straight about the "Lifetime Summary" for MPG. And I understand that the added weight of more battery cells would make the car even heavier and produce even lower true MPG. And I'm sure Ford (or whoever) would sell such a dream car if if were ready now. I'm just not going to buy a range-limited EV since I am a 1-car family. 70 miles around town would be okay but would still make me nervous, plus I couldn't take any out-of-town trips.Just wishing and dreaming ... http Posted June 3, 2013 at 12:10 AM Report Share Posted June 3, 2013 at 12:10 AM I would hope that some savvy business would develop a third party battery pack that would be the same form factor with better performance, both power, weight, and longevity. I don't know the economics of it, but about 5 years down the road, if there were enough Fusions, a replacement battery pack would probably be a big seller. The developer would have to work with Ford to make sure the software could accept a modernized battery pack. You don't have to buy a new car, just replace the battery.
