Russael Posted May 27, 2013 at 05:38 PM Report Share Posted May 27, 2013 at 05:38 PM I have no idea if the Ford Engineers (or any Ford employees in general) surf this board, but I was thinking about the MyFord Mobile website and was thinking about other things I'd kind of like to see integrated in to that website. I do like how it shows you estimated time to charge completion, how you can remote start the car, lock and unlock doors, skip preset go times.... but for a website that integrates with the car, I find this rather barren and isn't taking full advantage of what I think the car and the internet can really do. Is there a way you can maybe integrate Navigation items in to it, such as saving your favorite destinations and keeping it synchronized between the website and the car? It'd be fantastic to be able to switch vehicles (really beneficial for those who lease) and immediately republish all of the items you kept with your Nav, phone, and radio presets to your new car. I think it'd be cool to be able to look up an address online and program it to your NAV system for later use too. I can do that with my TomTom portable GPS - I can look up a route on the computer and download it to the unit. Does this have to be done through 3G? No. Make the car a wireless access client and do it that way (car is already capable of that). How about having the website tell you when software upgrades are available for your car? Not just NAV or Sync, but the car's onboard computer as well? Doesn't matter if you have to take it in for said upgrade or not, but I'd like to know if something was available. Start taking advantage of cloud computing. Music may not apply, but store everything else on the website rather than locally on the car... or at least keep it in both places and keep them synchronized. I'm sure there's more. I just think the 'car's website' can do so much more than just giving me my state of charge. Regman
murphy Posted May 27, 2013 at 05:57 PM Report Share Posted May 27, 2013 at 05:57 PM Does this have to be done through 3G? No. Make the car a wireless access client and do it that way (car is already capable of that). Not really. First they have to make it possible to enter a wireless key that uses letters. The keyboard is there but it is disabled. I spent my career programming for a main frame computer manufacturer (yes they still exist) and the programming of MFT feels very amateurish. Whoever did it shows no evidence that they know what a code review is. Letting a touch screen keyboard get into production with it disabled is inexcusable. You can locate an address or business from your car's web site and upload it to the car. This feature is enabled if you subscribe to Lexus Enform. That subscription includes concerge service, stolen vehicle location and roadside assistance. The assistant at the Lexus Response center can also upload addresses to your car, so if you hit the button and ask for XYZ Restaurant, the assistant can make a reservation for you and upload the address to your navigation system. We never use the Lexus service, so I expect MFT will be perfectly acceptable.
Energized Posted May 27, 2013 at 11:41 PM Report Share Posted May 27, 2013 at 11:41 PM (edited) SYNC Services allows you to manage your destinations (MyPoints) via a mobile app (SYNC Destinations) or via the web. You can enter your destination and then send it to the car through SYNC Services. SYNC Services also allows you to search for business locations (restaurants, coffee shop, hardware store, etc) via voice through their servers or you can choose to talk to a live person. Either way the destination gets sent to the Nav system. If you don't have Nav, the system will still provide turn-by-turn directions by voice. SYNC Services is free for 3 years. You can also send a destination to your car through MapQuest via "Send to SYNC" Edited May 28, 2013 at 12:09 AM by Energized

Energized Posted May 28, 2013 at 03:05 AM Report Share Posted May 28, 2013 at 03:05 AM There's so much to learn about this car, I learn new things every few days, if not more frequent than that. It's been a fun journey of exploration. The car is really quite remarkable in so many ways. Hope you receive yours this week.
Russael Posted May 28, 2013 at 10:47 AM Author Report Share Posted May 28, 2013 at 10:47 AM Hmmm... I did register for the Ford Sync My Ride, but haven't messed with it much. It'd be nicer in my opinion to have everything within 1 site and have it customize itself based on the vehicle VIN. Just call it "MyFord" or something simple, and have it set up with modules that either show or hide themselves based on your vehicle. Having everything separate with individual logins is an old way of doing things. And yes, this car is a techie's dream ride. :) The car read back its first text to me the other day which was pretty cool. Wouldn't let me respond though. http Posted May 29, 2013 at 01:35 AM Report Share Posted May 29, 2013 at 01:35 AM So I got word today that my car has arrived at the railhead and is now in line for transport to the dealer. I should have it by Friday or Saturday. I feel better. Please pardon my earlier outburst.
Russael Posted May 29, 2013 at 02:14 AM Author Report Share Posted May 29, 2013 at 02:14 AM LOL I know you're anxious. I think only Shaggy and myself were worse. I did pop in to the sync stuff and I see I can download turn by turn directions, but I'm kind of wondering if that saves it in the NAV system as a recent destination and/or a favorite. I've got a lot of exploring and messing around to do. And I'm also hoping my go time works this time.
Energized Posted May 30, 2013 at 04:11 AM Report Share Posted May 30, 2013 at 04:11 AM If you set it as a destination, it will automatically be saved as a recent destination. You can choose if you want to save it as a Favorite or not.
shaggy314 Posted May 30, 2013 at 06:33 PM Report Share Posted May 30, 2013 at 06:33 PM (edited) Maybe if i ACTUALLY HAD THE CAR I ORDERED IN MARCH I could have given a better answer. :wub:Maybe If I actually had the car that I ordered in JANUARY, I could also have given a better answer. Then again, there is the iOS app that lets you play with MFT, but not with live data, so it's fast. UPDATE: Rail update, my car is in Alfalfa, TX (El Paso), so, soon, very soon.
