Madevilz Posted May 2, 2022 at 01:48 PM Report Share Posted May 2, 2022 at 01:48 PM Noticed this as my wife drove the car in our driveway. Sounded like a very loud hair clipper buzzing noise. Can't be heard inside the car. When I asked my wife if she heard it, she said no. So it could have been happening for a while but we never noticed it as we are driving it. I'm 99% sure the buzz/humming can only be heard on EV mode. What can this be?
theterminator93 Posted May 2, 2022 at 06:57 PM Report Share Posted May 2, 2022 at 06:57 PM Is it constant or intermittent? The transmission fluid pump runs occasionally and sounds a bit like what I'm imagining from your description.
Madevilz Posted May 2, 2022 at 07:14 PM Author Report Share Posted May 2, 2022 at 07:14 PM constant, seems to be at low speed, so could it be the Pedestrian warning device? Or does that sound differently?
theterminator93 Posted May 2, 2022 at 10:04 PM Report Share Posted May 2, 2022 at 10:04 PM The only sounds I've ever noticed from ours at low speed is periodically the fluid pump and the whirring of the motor. Seems as though the fluid pump only runs at low speed or when the car is sitting still, but it's also as likely that's only when I notice it due to road noise. Can you post or link to a sound clip? I was able to reproduce the buzz at Park, and pushing the brake and release. Buzz is heard after each brake. https://streamable.com/ezeur2

As a related tidbit that's not covered much: You may occasionally hear a similar sounding noise from the rear of the car when it is completely off and sitting. You may have this happen after a decent trip using gas. The vehicle also has a gas tank vacuum/leak check that is run on occasion while the vehicle is completely shut down, usually not long after you turn it off and everything goes to sleep. This is also an expected noise. Edited May 3, 2022 at 03:15 AM by cr08 Madevilz
Gkinla Posted May 3, 2022 at 10:23 PM Report Share Posted May 3, 2022 at 10:23 PM On the Fusion Energi, the brake booster pump, power steering pump are electric. On an ICE driven car, these systems are driven by vacuum and fluid power steering, respectively. On the Energi, the brake booster pump comes on when the brake boost system pressure gets low, this is after several brake applications. This is the buzzing noise you're hearing. The electric power steering is on constantly, while the car is turned on, it's probably silent. jj2me
