howardbc Posted May 14, 2013 at 12:00 AM Report Share Posted May 14, 2013 at 12:00 AM I've had my Fusion Energi (Titanium) for about 800 miles now. I love it but am trying to learn what certain sounds mean so they do not cause me concern. I didn't find anything in the owner's manual to help me. For example, some times there will be a slow rolling soft chime (repeated maybe twice) after I pull out of my garage and have gone down the street for a few feet. I have my seat belt latched and no doors/trunk are open. It just comes on for one episode and no more, but this has happened about 3 separate times. There is no indication of anything wrong showing on the dash or display. I may be incorrect but I thought this same soft chime came on when the car was first started up. More troubling was a single loud harsh beep this morning just as I was stopping at a red light. Again no symbols showing anything. Had another car just gotten close enough to me to cause a sensor to beep? Cars were on all sides of me except in front. I know the sound of the increasing beeps when I am pulling close to a curb or am backing close to something behind me, but this was just a solitary beep. I was so concerned that I later pulled over and walked around the car to see if there was anything amiss. I found nothing. Is there a phone number at Ford one can call for questions like these? I hate to constantly pester the sales person but I really don't expect her to know everything. I have emailed the "Dealer Facilitator" (about something else) but he appears to be swamped. Sure would love to be able to talk to a Ford engineer who is very familiar with this car. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
Russael Posted May 14, 2013 at 12:31 AM Report Share Posted May 14, 2013 at 12:31 AM As far as your harsh beep went... if you have adaptive cruise, the system probably sensed something up front (it uses radar, so it does have a small spread), especially if you were in tight quarters. That's your collision warning. I'm surprised you didn't see the flashing red line in the windshield. I'm starting to wonder how often the system will false positive. As far as your soft rolling chime... no idea. I'll have to see if my own ride does that.
Rhyalus Posted May 14, 2013 at 01:42 AM Report Share Posted May 14, 2013 at 01:42 AM Did you have anything on the front passenger seat? If so, you might have triggered the seat belt warning. Other than that, I have had no unusual warnings or chimes. R
howardbc Posted May 14, 2013 at 02:25 AM Author Report Share Posted May 14, 2013 at 02:25 AM I was first in line at the red light so no one was in front of me, plus I didn't have Cruise Control on. The adapter cruise control won't work if Cruise Control is not turned on, will it? I didn't think to look for the red line of lights on the top of the dash and it was sunny so I may not have noticed anyway, but why would it come on if no one was in front of me? Also, I would have noticed if the person behind me was right on my bumper. I'm kind of sensitive to that since an uninsured drunk driver rear-ended me some years ago. Don't laugh but I have gotten into the habit of seat-belting my pocketbook in on the passenger side. So it couldn't have been that. I didn't have anything else heavy on the passenger seat. I have recently put a basket/trolley thing in front of the passenger seat but it isn't wedged in. But maybe I'll move it to the back seat to see what happens. Keep those thoughts coming! I appreciate it.
Russael Posted May 14, 2013 at 10:36 AM Report Share Posted May 14, 2013 at 10:36 AM The adaptive cruise comes with the collision warning with brake support. Adaptive cruise does not need to be turned on or enabled for that to still function. One other person said it went off when nothing was in front of him once (just a quick alarm with one blink from the red 'brake lights' on the windshield), so it does seem to trip once in a while. Anything that gets in the way of the sensors seems to be able to set it off (bugs, birds, etc). It'll probably startle me when I get my first false from it. :) It'd probably go completely nuts with my mother (if I ever let her drive it) since she stops right on people's bumpers at traffic intersections. She maybe leaves 4 inches between her and the person in front of her. Still hasn't learned to back off either, even though her front end was crunched by a tractor trailer that started backing up for no reason. I also warn her that her car is going to turn in to a sandwich if someone rear ends her when she's that close to the person in front. Stubborn old lady. howardbc
howardbc Posted May 14, 2013 at 02:46 PM Author Report Share Posted May 14, 2013 at 02:46 PM Russael - great post! Thanks so much. Good to know about adaptive cruise control automatically on. And I totally agree with you about your mother. Why do people do that (tail-gate) and not realize other drivers can do the same to them?!? I will look for warning lights the next time it happens. Thanks again.
