MFT Text to Speech and iPhone

I tried to setup SMS (text) to speech on my car today and was disappointed to find out that it did not work. Quick trip to google shows that the iPhone is not supported for this feature. What?? 30% or more of the smartphone market, and that is not one of the first ones you support? Looking through the feature support, its pretty spotty on that feature. Hopefully they are still working the kinks out...

Anybody have this feature working? Am I missing much?

It's working with my iPhone. I had to go into the Bluetooth network settings on the iPhone and enable a feature that is not by default.

After pairing the iPhone to the sync system:

Go to "settings" on the iPhone.

Select "Bluetooth"

Hit the chevron by "SYNC"

Slide "show notifications" to "on"

That should do it. It worked for mine anyhow. Iphone4 running iOS 6.1.3

It works with my Samsung Galaxy S II on T-Mobile.

Been reading other forums with others having mixed results. Just tried deleting the device and re-adding it (no luck). See another suggestion of deleting it, performing a Master Rest on MFT but not willing to do that tonight (just finished resetting up all my quick dials)

Gives me hope that I might be able to get it to work... just not tonight. For others who might want to try... http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/2011-mustang-talk/358535-ios-6-sync-map-bluetooth-profile-iphone-2.html#post3210979

Interesting... if at first it does not work... ignore it and have the car surprise you with -- "would you like to hear the msg?"

And for the best part, the first msg I get is "Check this crap out http...."

My wife was in the car with me an absolutely lost it laughing. Thanks Scooter for the tip, it seems to be working now.

Oh... and the link I got was from my neighbor where our wonderful elected officials are trying to outlaw selling Teslas in the state because they don't use a dealership network. Got to love how they are out for the peoples best interests (NOT).

Cool! Glad it finally worked for you. Yeah, I get a good giggle out of some of the stuff she translates texts to. Wait till she verbalizes emoticons! Good times!

Scooter80, I'm using an iPhone 4S running iOS 6.1.3, went to Settings as you said and turned Notifications On.  Sat in my car and still I get the message that text messaging is not supported by my phone, or something like that.  Only iPhone4 was listed in the Sync compatible devices, but I think I'll use meyersnole's remedy.  Ignore it and then see if it just starts working!

I don't know what to tell you other than this is what worked for me.

Surprise, surprise....using meyersnole's method appears to have worked for me!  I was driving home from my appointment on Friday and a text message came through  and I had no idea what was happening at first.

Thanks for the help Scooter80 and meyersnole!!

I know the thread is old, but wanted to post how I was able to get this to work for me.

Iphone 4 with iOS 7.0.4

The above didn't work for me and I didn't want to "master reset" my phone, according to the Ford website.

1. In Bluetooth on my phone, I selected "Forget this Device" under "Sync".

2. Turn "Bluetooth" "off"

3. In the car, under "settings..Phone".  Select "delete device".

4. In the car, under "settings..phone".  Select "add device"

5. On the phone, turn "Bluetooth" "on"

6. Let the device "discover" "SYNC".

7. Once you "confirm" the codes, on the phone

7a. On the phone, under "Bluetooth..SYNC", slide "show notifications" to "on"

8. In the car, "settings..phone..text messaging", select "sound, or read".

9. Make sure your phone is "locked" to receive text messages on MFT.  If not locked it doesn't work.  This was on the Ford website. Step 6 on this link:

I hope this helps others.

Thanks.  I will try this today.  I have been trying to get my IPhone 4S to work with texting and MFT with no results.

I hope it works for you.  I pretty much gave up on getting it to work until I saw this post yesterday and the one referring to iOS7.

I just edited my post adding to make sure the phone is locked in order to receive text messages.  This is according to the Ford website.
