I have this exact same issue...After a long drive my ICE decides not to turn off and go into EV mode. I then start to get an warning indicator "High Motor Temperature" in stop and go traffic... Did you ever figure this issue out? My ford Dealership couldn't replicate it. An there are no codes that pop up in the OBDII reader. What doesn't help is that I also need a new transmission too, but at $7400 I'm not trying to find out that I need another $XXXX to fix this over heating issue. my car is a 2014 and has 200k miles on it. I'd rather send it to the scrap yard. FORD doesn't know if the Transmission issues and overheating issues are related.

I found another post, similar issue. Turns out the battery cooling fan wire was routed poorly across a sharp metal edge, chafed through and shorted out. Blowing some fuses. I fixed shorting issue, but Ford documentation was misleading as to which fuse. Ended up taking to dealer, paid them $170 to replace a fuse and a "bad" breaker.
