Scooter80 Posted May 8, 2013 at 10:36 PM Report Share Posted May 8, 2013 at 10:36 PM (edited) Well, 3,700 miles and a month and a half in and our Bordeaux baby is no longer a virgin. My wife was driving home after shift and a "tweaker" (as she called her) cut her off, clipping the front end, fender and wheel. She further explained that tweaker went off "into orbit," spinning out, off the road, into a van parked in a driveway, pushing the van into a house while also striking the house itself. Homeowners were fine but "bumped out of bed." Corner of house is now sagging and a wall was pushed in a bit. All in all our car faired okay, but the other will be a total loss and hopefully the driver will be jailed as it appeared to be a road rage or DUI incident. She sped past my wife, passing over a double-yellow after a merge from two to one. The Deputy found a two-month expired insurance card in the offender's vehicle after she was transported to the hospital. I sure hope she has a better one or we'll be out our deductible. Goes in Monday for a new fender and wheel and the associated bodywork. Luckily it appears no mechanical damage was sustained and there is no noticeable change to the driving. Can't post photos from my iPad but they're in my gallery. Got one posted: Edited May 8, 2013 at 11:11 PM by Scooter80
BadRock Posted May 8, 2013 at 10:58 PM Report Share Posted May 8, 2013 at 10:58 PM Totally lame! That's a real bummer but at least she is okay and the damage is minor in comparison to what it could be.
FusionEnergi Posted May 8, 2013 at 11:04 PM Report Share Posted May 8, 2013 at 11:04 PM (edited) Sorry to hear that, hope your wife isn't too shaken up.My wife had a close call the other day in a school zone, she had to slam on the breaks to keep from being hit. A motorcycle cop saw them speeding away and pulled them over. Edited May 8, 2013 at 11:51 PM by FusionEnergi
Scooter80 Posted May 8, 2013 at 11:22 PM Author Report Share Posted May 8, 2013 at 11:22 PM I happened to be on shift the next town over (I'm a police officer and my wife is a 911 dispatcher for a different town) and my dispatcher advised me via phone that my wife was involved in a crash that I was currently hearing on the fire district radio. They mentioned a rollover on the radio, but my dispatcher had no further info on my wife. I think at that point I was more shaken up than my wife was!!! That phone call will haunt me. Anyhow, I got permission and went to the scene. While I was headed there, I got my wife on the phone and she immediately said she was fine. Whew! Anyways, met her there and gave her a big hug. She was more pissed than shaken, but did need some more attention later in the day as her anger at having our new car damaged wore off and her senses returned to normal. Though I really wanted to make sure the Deputies did everything in their power to hammer this lady, I stayed on the sidelines and just comforted my wife. Then back to duty for another hour. That was a tough hour. Anyhow, thanks for the well-wishes. Certainly could have been worse. Glad they got 'em for your wife, FE! I love it when I get the opportunity to make it right like that! TX NRG Posted May 9, 2013 at 02:40 AM Report Share Posted May 9, 2013 at 02:40 AM Sorry about the car but glad to hear everyone will be ok. Close calls like that (and your dispatcher's phone call) are reminders to cherish the time we have with the people around us.

Scooter80 Posted May 11, 2013 at 09:46 PM Author Report Share Posted May 11, 2013 at 09:46 PM Body shop called yesterday. Ford sent the wrong fender. No cutout for charge port. Appointment delayed a day. We'll see if Ford can get it right. Can't imagine there's been much call for Energi parts yet, so I can't blame them. Scooter80 Posted May 18, 2013 at 12:08 AM Author Report Share Posted May 18, 2013 at 12:08 AM Got the car back from the body shop today, but all is not perfect. Panel alignment was pretty poor and the body guy had left for the day already, so I'll have to take it back to have them adjust that. But I need to ask a favor of someone! I went to plug it in and inspected the charge port closer than I ever have and noticed the rubber gasket or weatherstrip around it is not as I remember. It appears to be more "flappy" (for lack of a better term) than I think it should be. Can someone shoot a close up of their open charge port? The rubber I'm talking about rings the whole port closest to the LED ring. I'm thinking it should tuck behind the fender somehow, but that they didn't know that and installed it incorrectly. It's be awesome if someone could shoot a pic so I have it for them to reference when I go back in. Thanks in advance!!!

Scooter80 Posted May 18, 2013 at 12:25 AM Author Report Share Posted May 18, 2013 at 12:25 AM Hope this photo helps.Awesome! It does! One more thing though. That outermost rubber bit... If you touch it, are you able to to "flap" or curl it away from the LED ring, or is it rolled behind it?
murphy Posted May 18, 2013 at 12:27 AM Report Share Posted May 18, 2013 at 12:27 AM It sticks out so it can seal against the back of the door when it is closed.
Scooter80 Posted May 18, 2013 at 12:32 AM Author Report Share Posted May 18, 2013 at 12:32 AM (edited) It sticks out so it can seal against the back of the door when it is closed.Ahhhh, that makes sense. It appears mine is just not as well fit as it used to be and as Larry's looks. Thanks for the help all!! Here's mine for reference. Alot of filler dust too! I won't be using this bodyshop again. Should have learned the first time. They did a bit of hail damage on my Audi and the seatbelt didn't work afterwards, requiring a return trip as well. Ugh! larryh Posted May 18, 2013 at 12:35 AM Report Share Posted May 18, 2013 at 12:35 AM There are two rubber gaskets around the ring. The outermost one is right on top the LED ring and can be rolled up away from the ring. I think it is attached to another piece under the ring. The inner rubber gasket is above the outer gasket and used to ensure a good seal when you close the door.
CT3113 Posted April 6, 2014 at 03:23 AM Report Share Posted April 6, 2014 at 03:23 AM I feel your pain... Got rear ended with only 1780 miles on the car. shaggy314 Posted April 14, 2014 at 07:12 PM Report Share Posted April 14, 2014 at 07:12 PM Glad she's ok, was SERIOUSLY hoping for a photo of the house! An unsold house in my subdivision wound up with a free drive into parking for a few weeks as a drunk in a truck go so far into the house that the master bath's tub was pushed about 4" out the back of the house. I stopped by after people bought it and was told the builder didn't mention it. :whistling:
