Rhyalus Posted May 8, 2013 at 09:05 PM Report Share Posted May 8, 2013 at 09:05 PM Hello All, Just wanted to introduce myself. I picked up my Bordeaux Energi Titanium today... pleased that no gas was used on the way home. :-) Incidentally, my 5k refund check came back from Tesla today. I originally planned on buying the Model S, but it came out to ~90k (~83k after tax rebate) - and that was just too much for me to consider given several variables. I look forward to interacting with the other users here on the forum. Best,R
Russael Posted May 8, 2013 at 09:37 PM Report Share Posted May 8, 2013 at 09:37 PM It's too bad they couldn't put your profile image on your driver's license. :) Welcome to the forums. Did you buy from dealer lot or did you special order?
jeff_h Posted May 8, 2013 at 09:50 PM Report Share Posted May 8, 2013 at 09:50 PM Wow, that's some big money for the Tesla... welcome aboard!
Rhyalus Posted May 8, 2013 at 10:11 PM Author Report Share Posted May 8, 2013 at 10:11 PM I forget the name of the service, but any forum that I join with the same email address gets that same Avatar (originally selected for gaming with Steam)... I did not choose this specifically for this forum. :-) Russael, I special ordered. I wanted the adaptive cruise control and the nav, but not the driver assist stuff. I am too young to be warned about swerving from my lane. Also, I grew up in the Bronx and have been parallel parking since I was a kid... I didn't need the help. I am very happy with the car so far, but unfortunately it was pouring rain today, and only when I got the car into the garage and it dried up a bit did I notice a "ding" in the metal beam above the driver side doors. I have an email into the dealer to find out what they can do about it. Best,R
Russael Posted May 9, 2013 at 12:38 AM Report Share Posted May 9, 2013 at 12:38 AM I also ordered mine with adaptive cruise, nav, and the moonroof/garage door opener. Like you, I felt the driver assist stuff was too froofy for me (I did want the BLIS, but wasn't willing to spend a fortune for options I didn't care about) and I don't parallel park. Anyway, glad to hear you're happy with your ride. Sounds like it has been christened... (it got it's first ding). Considering it isn't a warranty defect, it'll put the customer service of the dealership to the test... but I'd expect them to have you pay for a repair if you wanted it fixed. How long did it take you to receive your car from ordering? I'll be going on 4 months. Ordered last week of January. Hope to see it end of the month. CombsAuthor Posted May 9, 2013 at 03:15 AM Report Share Posted May 9, 2013 at 03:15 AM Welcome to the forum. The Tesla -S is fantastic but you'll love the Energi. I had a guy in a Tesla roll up next to me last Saturday...he rolled down his window and stayed at my rear quarter until I turned off. We figured that he was jealous. The order did not take too long...probably mid March to just yesterday. Regarding the "ding", I expect them to do something about it. It was raining and the water was all beaded up on the car surface. While we looked it over as carefully as possible, the only way to have seen it would have been to wipe it down with a towel in a garage. I am not sure what they can do to fix it, but I won't allow them to just shrug their shoulders... R

I had a guy in a Tesla roll up next to me last Saturday...he rolled down his window and stayed at my rear quarter until I turned off. We figured that he was jealous. The Model S is a great car - I did two separate test drives and spent many months thinking about it. The problem was that for that amount of money, one would expect a lot of amenities and no range anxiety... :-) To be clear, the Energi is half the car that the Tesla is - in EVERY way including the cost. I just did not "need" the Tesla. The Energi allows me to to be "green" and also to enjoy some new technologies. R

But I was specifically looking for a plug-in hybrid which really limited the choices. Seeing that 17" screen in the middle was exciting and sure made me wish that manufacturers would integrate pads into their interiors...which will certainly be coming in the future.Like the Tesla, the Fusion Energi is a work of art and wins because there in no range anxiety and is feature rich. It is state of the art technology for a reasonable price. Car and Driver has a great video review of the Tesla. I couldn't post the link but it is worth the look to get a good feel for the car. Enjoy your new ride. Edited May 9, 2013 at 02:32 PM by CombsAuthor Rhyalus
Rhyalus Posted May 9, 2013 at 11:34 PM Author Report Share Posted May 9, 2013 at 11:34 PM The Tesla and high capacity EV only systems will get better and cheaper over time. I "wanted" to be an early adopter, and even dropped 5k down many months ago to hold a reservation. However, the problem was that the "base" costs included the 7500 tax rebate and no "extras". Well, you NEED the extras. At the end of the day the cost was just too high for a first release vehicle. At less than half the price, the Energi was the best option. I looked into the Lincoln MKZ and was pretty disappointed. In NY, the MKZ is not allowed in the HOV lane because the emissions are not good enough. It is funny watching people argue about EV vehicles and associated costs. To me this is a decent low end luxury car with excellent fuel efficiency... R I spoke with someone I know who bought a Tesla S (performance model), and he did not describe his purchase as an EV. He bought a sports car that just happens to be an EV. He was comparing it to a Porsche Panamera and Cadillac CTS-V.
Rhyalus Posted May 11, 2013 at 11:56 AM Author Report Share Posted May 11, 2013 at 11:56 AM (edited) Quick update on the ding that the car has, noticed after pickup in the rain....The guys at my dealership were pretty cool. I am going in on Tuesday morning to meet their body guy so he can try to bang out the ding... They even offered to hold the car and give me a loaner, but really this is not such a big deal. They joked how sometimes new customers come in with scrapes or dents in obvious places stating that they got the car that way, but my ding is on the beam above the doors on the left side of the vehicle.I just hope they can make it perfect without messing up the paint job. I will try to post a picture of before and after soon.R EDIT: Cell phone snapshots... Edited May 11, 2013 at 01:23 PM by Rhyalus
Rhyalus Posted June 10, 2013 at 05:46 PM Author Report Share Posted June 10, 2013 at 05:46 PM Update: They fixed this "ding". Unfortunately, it was not easy - they could not access the metal from behind, so it had to go to the body shop for the part to be replaced. This was done at no cost to me. I am pleased. Russael Posted June 10, 2013 at 05:53 PM Report Share Posted June 10, 2013 at 05:53 PM Nice. I hope I get the same service. Mine isn't a dent but a chip/scratch. We'll see what they do. It's in an unusual place (on the hood facing the windshield)... I never noticed it until a couple days ago because it's tiny, and the sun caught it, which brought my attention to it.
