Energized Posted May 4, 2013 at 11:16 PM Report Share Posted May 4, 2013 at 11:16 PM I was using Grade Assist today and after several miles were added on the battery display, the engine turned on and "Engine On For: Grade Assist" was displayed on the center display. Once previously I topped off the battery going downhill using just the throttle-off regen, not Grade Assist. In that condition, once the battery was full the "engine drag" ceased and the vehicle picked up speed as if in neutral, sort of. On the center pictoral display, the blue regen stopped flowing into the battery. In this condition the engine did not start.
jsamp Posted May 31, 2013 at 08:23 PM Report Share Posted May 31, 2013 at 08:23 PM Thanks Energized. That's interesting that Ford has added this behavior. In the "old days" of my Escape hybrid there was no Grade Assist, so it would just rev up the engine whenever the battery was full on a steep hill. Now you can choose this behavior or not.
