Now it gives an estimate of the time/distance remaining before the next oil change (which is a not that difficult of a calculation but still handy to have displayed). It has been a rocky road at times, but together we have come a long way in a relatively short period of time from the 3G abyss ? See earlier posts in this thread for tips on that. If you're ready to pay for the swap then just call or visit a local Ford dealer and mention you want to swap out the 3G modem on your Fusion Energi. You can mention CSP 21B09, which provides details on the parts and labor required. They had paused replacements a few months ago to fix bugs and I'm still not 100% certain they have resumed doing installs now. But your Ford dealer can look it up and tell you. Those are on hold until Q4 (this is according to a Ford tech I spoke to). So you should be able to call up your dealer and see if your VIN is covered. If it is, then (pending parts availability) they should be able to order the kit and install it for you. If your VIN is not covered then you'll be on the hook for parts+labor, but even then it should not be costing $1000. The parts are about $300-400 and maybe an hour of labor. Before the 4G modem upgrade, I updated Sync 3 to 3.4 using an update file download from a laptop to a high capacity exFAT formatted USB drive and placed it in the vehicle's USP port. (If you need to update, the vehicle must be on so turn auto stop off.) https://www.ford.com/support/sync-maps-updates/ TSB 22-2230 Service Bulletin Details https://dot.report/bulletins/10214758 Download and print out the service bulletin then take it with you and schedule an appointment. Empty the trunk and fold down the rear seats. Place the printed service bulletin in the clean and empty trunk and pray the technician can follow instructions. I deleted the VIN from the FordPass app before service and was contacted by the technician during installation to re-enter the VIN and authorization was granted. All of my functions are working. The 4G modem upgrade with parts, labor, and tax totaled just under $500. Bookkeeper Posted September 7, 2022 at 04:40 PM Report Share Posted September 7, 2022 at 04:40 PM Nothing earth shattering with this post just saying; a letter arrived today (Sault, Ontario) re-offering the 4g modem replacement program. The CSP #21B09 stayed the same but the program date has been extended to (on this letter) March 31, 2023.
Bookkeeper Posted September 12, 2022 at 08:57 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2022 at 08:57 PM (edited) Yikes!...two Ford dealers in town, one estimate is $750+tax and the other was $670+tax with me paying for installation. Yes, I pointed out that installation is included in 21B09 BUT I still had to point it out and have them look at the price again. Beginning to get the impression they may just not want to do this job. Maddening, as I am one of the ones that forked over the cash for an extended warranty. No point being made here just a rant. Hopefully they come down in price as I will not do it with those numbers...which will upset me even more having a car with a "button" that does not work. Titanium Tom Posted September 12, 2022 at 10:44 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2022 at 10:44 PM To see if you have coverage under this CSP, visit the Ford Support website and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or log in to your account. Otherwise, you pay parts and labor. Mine totaled just under $500. I'm buying a second Energi this week. It's a 2020 and the vin is not listed in Ford's Customer Satisfaction Program so I'm going to have it done again at that dealership. BTW my recent experience with the cost of a Ford extended warranty coverage revealed that it varies from dealership to dealership as much as a 100% so shop around. eminaise Posted November 22, 2022 at 08:34 PM Report Share Posted November 22, 2022 at 08:34 PM Matt form Seattle here. Still having issues. 2016 FF Energi bought new in Feb 2018 (likely the issue). Sync 2. Based on 21B09 I should be included (2014-2020, within 5 years of purchase), but my VIN was not on the FSA VIN list. So I talked with my local dealer and they agreed to eat the cost if I paid for the modem. So I shelled out $450 for the 4g modem in April(ish) of 2022 and it's still not working. After multiple calls (like 10-15) to the ford pass support, they emailed me a "Thank you for your continued loyalty and being part of the Ford family" with the TSB 22-2309 (updated 22-2230) and told me to contact the dealer for an appt. to fix the issue. Made the appt and still not working. I confirmed the tech performed the 22-2309 procedure (had it printed out and placed on the seat). They are now saying that my car isn't upgradable to 4g and it'll never work. I pointed out that I'm still within 5 years and all the TSBs indicate that it should work. So as a last ditch, they are ordering a new 4g modem, hoping it was just a faulty 4g modem they used initially. I'm not holding my breath. I wish Ford would just man-up/woman-up and confess and tell me that it'll never work, but instead they have me wasting my time. I think they will drag it out until past Feb 2023 and then tell me it's past 5-years... too bad, so sad.

Though things are gonna change when they get the new modem in, exactly what was not working with the existing 4G modem? When they get the new one in, if it continues to not work please let us know specifics on that as well. It'll help narrow down what the issue is and a potential fix if your dealer isn't handling it properly. A number of us who have been in the weeds on these things honestly know a lot more about this 4G upgrade situation than most dealers and in most cases they CAN be fixed/made to work. rd400guy Posted December 29, 2022 at 08:04 PM Report Share Posted December 29, 2022 at 08:04 PM So add me to the list. My Go Times and Value Charge settings stopped working last week. I called two local dealers, one didn't even know what a modem was and the other just quoted me "just under $1000" since my 2016's VIN isn't part of the FSA list. I guess I'll start making complaints to corporate. And I didn't see it listed anywhere on this thread, but apparently there's a class action suit... OH wait, I just remembered when I first bought the car, they had to replace the modem because none of the features were working, must've been a 2G modem, which is maybe why my VIN wasn't covered??? Bookkeeper Posted May 2, 2023 at 05:49 PM Report Share Posted May 2, 2023 at 05:49 PM (edited) Just received an extension letter today in the mail, it is dated April 28, 2023 and is from Ford of Canada. The gist of it states the 21B09 "program has been extended to July 31, 2023, regardless of distance travelled." Back down the rabbit hole, I had long ago come to grips with not paying 700+$CAN for a 275$US part. My northern Ontario Ford dealer said the program was a surprise to them as they had not yet heard of it. The dealer will look into pricing and call me back. This thread addition is just to let others know the program appears to be extended, if anything major develops out of my call to the dealer I will add it here. UPDATE: dealer just called 668$+tax, free labour to install. BIG nope, basically extended the program but changed nothing else. theterminator93 Posted May 2, 2023 at 06:51 PM Report Share Posted May 2, 2023 at 06:51 PM I wonder how far out the service will run. Our 17 was sold to the first owner in March of 2018, and the 5-year "trial" of MFM/FordPass would have expired over a month ago. It still works. Maybe it will continue to work indefinitely since the modem was upgraded? ?
cr08 Posted May 2, 2023 at 07:17 PM Report Share Posted May 2, 2023 at 07:17 PM (edited) Ford has made zero indication that they plan to return FordPass to having a subscription fee (other than if you have a vehicle with hotspot functionality and subscribe to that) so I'd wager it'll continue to operate until 4G/LTE service is dead. That won't be a for a while yet since early 5G devices still need 4G/LTE service as an 'anchor'. And carriers have tools to dynamically allocate spectrum between 4G/LTE and 5G so they are no longer stuck doing one or the other. There's also virtually zero reason for them to single out these vehicles specifically and cut them off. Likely Ford has a cushy deal with AT&T (here in the US at least) for a mass account so cutting out certain groups of their fleet, especially ones as small as the C-Max/Fusion Energi models, wouldn't really benefit them in any way.
