Dark Matter Posted April 24, 2013 at 03:13 AM Report Share Posted April 24, 2013 at 03:13 AM Hey All, I just used my first public charging station! It was a hoot and I thought it might be helpful/fun if we had a place to post our successes/failures for others in case they are looking. The one I used was in Napa, CA and was located at the Premium Outlets (SE corner behind the food court entrance). They have 2 Level 2 chargers and they are working fine. It took a couple of hours to charge. Incidentally, I have Sync email my phone when the charge is complete. It's such a cool feature! They are free. :banvictory:
murphy Posted April 24, 2013 at 09:59 AM Report Share Posted April 24, 2013 at 09:59 AM Interesting, I suppose that it is free because they want you to spend the two hours it takes to charge the car roaming around their store.
Russael Posted April 24, 2013 at 10:45 AM Report Share Posted April 24, 2013 at 10:45 AM That's cool. I took a look at the Chargepoint map for Michigan, and it was actually a challenge to find a charging station that made you pay for usage. I found one next to the Renaissance Center in Detroit in a parking structure that charges you 2 bucks to use it plus some kind of hourly rate up to a 6 hour maximum, but that's the only one I've found so far. Everywhere else has been free.
Energized Posted May 16, 2013 at 09:32 PM Report Share Posted May 16, 2013 at 09:32 PM Of all the charging station apps that I've used, I like an app called PlugShare best. It consolidates stations from all sources and you can filter by different criteria.
47Minutes Posted May 16, 2013 at 10:13 PM Report Share Posted May 16, 2013 at 10:13 PM I believe PlugShare is what has been integrated into the Focus Electric app from Ford and will, eventually, be added to the PHEV app/myfordmobile.com. CombsAuthor Posted May 17, 2013 at 02:13 AM Report Share Posted May 17, 2013 at 02:13 AM Plugshare is the best app that I've seen as well...it even has private residences who offer their chargers. One word of caution that I've found is that the paid chargers on the Blink Network continue to charge your account until you unplug from the car. They do this to keep you from camping out in the prime spots.
