Gigi Posted September 8, 2021 at 02:38 AM Report Share Posted September 8, 2021 at 02:38 AM While driving on battery power I will hear the battery cooling fan come on high - the same sound as when charging - then I get the yellow wrench and the check engine light. The dealer seems to have no clue what the problem is. It seems to me that the cooling fan is coming on for some reason such as heat in the battery caused by something. This is a 2013 Fusion Energi with 60K+ miles. Battery range has fallen to 10-14 miles. Oddly, range increases after the yellow wrench for a while then goes back to around 14 miles. Loose connection between battery cells? Have you had this problem? What was the resolution? If you haven't had the problem, what do you suppose is going on? doncondo Posted September 13, 2021 at 11:55 PM Report Share Posted September 13, 2021 at 11:55 PM You need to find out when your warranty started. Ford warranty on the hybrid battery is 8 yrs/100000 miles. This may be covered under warranty. What is the error code associated with the wrench light? Ford should have read that or auto zone etc. should be able to read it for you and give you a print out. I have a 13 that fell out of warranty last dec. that's giving me battery cooling fan errors P0A82. Hybrid battery pack cooling fan 1 performance or stuck off. I'm trying to decide if I take it to ford or someplace else. Battery performance hasn't been compromised yet.
testriderchuck Posted December 23, 2021 at 10:21 AM Report Share Posted December 23, 2021 at 10:21 AM Mine developed the same issue, about the same time. P0A81 code. I've put some info on another thread, search for posts from me, there's only a couple. What I'm finding is a more serious issue is that, without both battery fans running the DC - DC converter (changes 320V DC to 12V DC) gets hot and shuts down. It's part of the HVB assembly and relies on the fans to keep cool. The HVB gets warm when charging OR discharging, needs to be cooled. fans draw air through the vent in the package shelf and out into the trunk/outside. Good luck finding a dealer that's interested in other than your wallet.
Dilly Posted November 9, 2022 at 11:41 PM Report Share Posted November 9, 2022 at 11:41 PM Did anyone get this resolved with satisfaction? I'm not totally confident the fan is really what's causing the yellow wrench and check engine light, and I am loathe to put more money into my 2014 Energi at this point. I'm thinking it may be time to move on, much as I've loved this vehicle. I would really appreciate any further info you may have. I'm going to try calling the dealership tomorrow to inquire about whether it's included int he battery warranty.
testriderchuck Posted December 8, 2022 at 04:27 PM Report Share Posted December 8, 2022 at 04:27 PM Look for my post/pic (there aren't many from me). I found a chafed /shorted wire behind the hvb battery cover above - ish the 12v. Dealer replaced a couple things, probable to justify their fees. There's also a fuse, i think 53 that blows. It's not intuitive and, if I remember, it's on the under side of the panel under the hood.
