lokicat Posted April 19, 2013 at 11:47 PM Report Share Posted April 19, 2013 at 11:47 PM A few funny comments from friends and strangers when they saw my car: "Damn, should have waited" - 2012 Fusion Hybrid owner"Damn, pretty nice" - friend with Tesla S"Really? I thought only Japanese car makers did hybrids.""You must have a really short commute.""I bet you have a decent amount of trunk space up front.""Nice Bimmer!" I'm sure some of you heard even better one... PlugMeIn
pluggedin Posted April 23, 2013 at 01:54 AM Report Share Posted April 23, 2013 at 01:54 AM (edited) I drove into a Toyota dealership today to pick up some touch up paint for my Camry and when I parked the Energi in front of the Used Car Sales Office one of the salesmen came out and gushed all over the car. He said he wasn't aware that Ford made a plug-in and was totally impressed with the mileage figures I lied to him about (not really, I didn't lie). PlugMeIn Posted April 23, 2013 at 02:01 AM Report Share Posted April 23, 2013 at 02:01 AM I really like this topic. The 2013 Fusion really stands out as something way more exotic than it really is. Ford did a jam up job on the new Fusion! :worship:
lokicat Posted April 29, 2013 at 10:37 PM Author Report Share Posted April 29, 2013 at 10:37 PM Best one yet! I'm trying to figure out how to use a Charepoint charger in my shopping mall and a lady in a Nissan Leaf yells at me that the parking space is only for EV cars! I pop open the charge cover and she goes "oh, that's cool". This raises a philosophical question - I don't need to charge but the lady in the Leaf does. Is it only right for me to let her have the spot?

Is it only right for me to let her have the spot? The spot is for any EV, for which you qualify. Who knows things may devolve into a full EV being in another category and then you'll see 'full EV only' - but until then you have the right to have your turn, and then it will be her turn. If she wants to grovel about almost being out of fuel then you might be a nice person and defer to her, just as you'd probably do if you were in line at a gas station and some guy's car is sputtering since it's almost out of gas and he can't wait in line. Added - I see the etiquette pic was posted while I was typing, looks like I'm not in line with proper etiquette on the sign, but it's still the way I see it. TX NRG Posted April 30, 2013 at 12:44 AM Report Share Posted April 30, 2013 at 12:44 AM First come, first served. Send her a text or email when your car is done charging and you promptly move it to another space. It's not your fault she bought a vehicle that doesn't have dual propulsion systems like your Energi. ;)
shaggy314 Posted May 1, 2013 at 05:59 PM Report Share Posted May 1, 2013 at 05:59 PM I'd let an EV take a spot over my PHEV, then challenge them to a 620 mile endurance race... ;-) jsamp, jeff_h, 47Minutes and 1 other
shaggy314 Posted May 1, 2013 at 10:31 PM Report Share Posted May 1, 2013 at 10:31 PM I posted this elsewhere, but it pertains... I had the opposite view a month or so ago. I was heading down the freeway and saw the nose of a Fusion to my right. As it slowly over took me, I thought, "I didn't think there was a Fusion coupe."one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand. I see an Aston logo on it's tail... oops. pluggedin

A different way to think about it is, a full EV has larger range and that full EV is likely to have more EV miles to empty than I have. If I want to stay in EV mode I need to charge more often, and am more dependent on chargers out in the wild. The full EV is likely to have enough charge to make it back home, but I understand that may not always be the case, and of course it makes sense to give up a charger to someone in that situation.
