BryanT Posted June 4, 2021 at 12:50 AM Report Share Posted June 4, 2021 at 12:50 AM I am a full-time RV’er living in a motorhome and towing a 2018 Ford fusion energy. According to the user manual I should leave the vehicle in accessory mode, but I have discovered that the 12volt Battery may become fully discharged in 3 to 5 hours of travel. If we arrive at our destination and find that the 12v battery has completely discharged it’s a pain in the BUTT to resolve the issues. we usually end up with several other messages appearing on the screen for a couple of days or until I completely disconnect the 12 V battery… Two questions: 1. Why do I need to leave the vehicle in excess remote? The steering still works even if the 12v battery is fully discharged! 2. I have looked in the owners manual and can find no reference to how to trickle charge the 12 Volt battery before or during travel. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks!! murphy Posted June 4, 2021 at 10:05 AM Report Share Posted June 4, 2021 at 10:05 AM There are two terminals under the hood that can be used to charge the 12 volt battery. A red soft cover for + and a bolt sticking up out of the shock tower for -. BryanT
doug121041 Posted June 5, 2021 at 07:31 PM Report Share Posted June 5, 2021 at 07:31 PM I have a 2019 Fusion Energi and have towed it behind my motorhome for several thousand miles. After I have the transmission in "Neutral Tow"mode, I turn off the ignition (press the Start/Stop button). Never had a problem and have never run down the battery. I use a Brake Buddy for supplemental braking and installed another 12 VDC outlet directly wired to the battery because the 12 VDC outlets in the car don't stay "live" for more than 10 minutes. On those rare occasions where I keep the car attached to my motorhome overnight (multi day trip) and are in a pull thru site, I disconnect the Brake Buddy to make sure that it doesn't draw down the battery overnight - - and reconnect it in the morning before we leave.
