Jump start FROM an Energi?

Hey all,

I've seen many posts about jumping a dead 12V battery on an Energi, but I was doing it the other way today, and had problems.  I was jumping my truck that has been sitting too long due to Covid.  I used the terminal under the front hood to jump from, and I measured 14.x volts that I expected, but it wouldn't jump the truck.  When I connected, I didn't get the usual small sparks that I get from a typical car.  It was reading higher voltage, but didn't seem to be adding much to the truck.  I was in EV mode (no ICE) but thought it shouldn't matter if I'm getting 14+ volts.  Anyone else tried this?  I had to get my ICE car to jump the truck.  Worked fine.

The wires from under the hood to the battery are too small to support the current required to start a traditional ICE engine.

They were sized to support charging the battery.

Connect directly to the battery posts in the trunk.

Make sure you are directly on the posts and not on the current measuring connections.

I suspect that much current would destroy the current measurement sensors.
