Madevilz Posted April 8, 2021 at 11:15 PM Report Share Posted April 8, 2021 at 11:15 PM I just noticed it today, after a short 10min drive, I noticed some water drops near the exhaust system, so I checked under the car and saw a small hole. Seems to have been drilled and not some kind of road hazard damage. Is this normal? theterminator93 Posted April 9, 2021 at 12:52 AM Report Share Posted April 9, 2021 at 12:52 AM (edited) One of the by-products of internal combustion gases, after catalytic converter interaction, is regular water. This water vapor mixes with other exhaust gases and can be corrosive if it condenses against cool exhaust pipes and collects in the exhaust for long periods. There are drain holes in mufflers on many cars to allow moisture condensation to drain to prevent corrosion. Even on traditional gasoline vehicles where the exhaust pipes get very hot after a few miles of driving, they are present. With these cars being designed to use the ICE as little as possible, the exhaust often doesn't have a chance to warm up enough to naturally cause that condensation from evaporating, so there are drain holes.
