Dead 12V battery and open circuits

I just heard back from my dealer....my engine light was on and also the wrench light.

thought it was just a new 12v battery needed.

so we put a brand new 12V battery in the trunk of 2017 energi, charged the car overnight, car was dead.

dealer is saying the car has "open circuits" that are damaged for whatever reason and now all the wiring has to be replaced and we need another new 12V battery. $1400 later....

has anyone else had this happen, and how do we prevent the circuits from being damaged/corroded??
