Dave H Posted December 8, 2020 at 10:31 PM Report Share Posted December 8, 2020 at 10:31 PM Hi folks! Recently retired to the Philly area to be near our daughter. I picked up a used Fusion Energi because I have always wanted to try a hybrid/electric car. Just checking in here before exploring the forum and to learn how to how to charge my new ride at a time later in the day.
jsamp Posted December 9, 2020 at 04:29 AM Report Share Posted December 9, 2020 at 04:29 AM (edited) Welcome, Dave! You can either use your smart phone and My Ford Mobile app to set delayed charging (called Value Charging by Ford) or by using the center screen in the car. On the center screen, touch the white square with the road and leaf on it (tab at the bottom) and that will take you to the charging screen. Select 'Value Charge' and set your start and end times. One note: it assumes you want a full charge, so if your start time and end times are too close together, it will assume a different start time to make sure it is 100% by your end time. murphy Posted December 9, 2020 at 11:54 AM Report Share Posted December 9, 2020 at 11:54 AM (edited) I'm not sure why you need value charging. The PECO power rate is the same 24 hours a day 365 days a year. I plug my 2013 in when I return home and it's done 2 hours later using a 240 volt EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment). The charger is built into the car. Since you are new to the car the heater is a 5 kW resistance heater that will reduce your electric range significantly during cold (below 60 F) weather. Below freezing I get about 10 miles on a charge . The car does not have a starter motor or an alternator. The engine is started by one of the two electric motors and the 12 volt battery is charged by a DC to DC converter. Both are powered from the 350 volt (approximate value) DC battery. The two propulsion motors operate on 3 phase AC provided by an inverter. I'm in Horsham, PA. Dave H Posted December 9, 2020 at 04:21 PM Author Report Share Posted December 9, 2020 at 04:21 PM Thanks to both of you. I discovered after calling PECO that there is no "off-peak" rate so I simply plugged it in and it was at 100% this morning. We just returned after running some local errands and I was pleased to do it all on electricity alone. Thanks for the welcome and quick answer to my rookie questions! murphy Posted December 9, 2020 at 09:03 PM Report Share Posted December 9, 2020 at 09:03 PM The majority of my driving is done on electricity only. I put about 2 gallons of gas in the car this year. I didn't go anywhere because of Covid-19.
muzicman61 Posted December 10, 2020 at 02:50 PM Report Share Posted December 10, 2020 at 02:50 PM I hear ya. Since I'm fortunate to work from home, my only trips out are to the fast food drive through or Walmart for curbside grocery pickup. The only gas I've put in my car this year was when I made a trip to Lake Havasu to see the London Bridge and Needles California to visit a dispensary. ?
