PlugMeIn Posted April 2, 2013 at 12:08 AM Report Share Posted April 2, 2013 at 12:08 AM Has anyone thought about adding a roof rack for bikes or an under the bumper type for the 2013?
Scooter80 Posted April 2, 2013 at 01:10 AM Report Share Posted April 2, 2013 at 01:10 AM I have a Curt brand hitch receiver and a Yakima Flipside bike rack waiting for "Spring" and warmer concrete floors to go on. I am somewhat worried about what taking the plastic cowling off to install the hitch will do to fuel economy. But my wife is short and demanded a hitch mount rack for the bikes. Strapping on a trunk mount got real old real fast. I'll keep you posted. It'll likely be a few weeks before I get them on though. I'm thinking of the same setup.
Scooter80 Posted April 4, 2013 at 03:28 AM Report Share Posted April 4, 2013 at 03:28 AM What plastic cowling are the referring too? I'm thinking of the same setup. Haven't been under it yet, but judging from some photos I've seen of the install, it's a black plastic "skid plate" sort of thing that attatches to the lower bumper fascia and prevents "pocketing" of air in the bumper cover. The Hidden Hitch brand of receiver shows you can trim it and reinstall it, so maybe the same is possible for the Curt.

Fjmoricca Posted March 3, 2014 at 03:06 AM Report Share Posted March 3, 2014 at 03:06 AM What do you think will happen to mileage/fuel economy if I put a roof rack on for my road bikes (2 bikes)?
Rexracer Posted March 13, 2014 at 05:59 PM Report Share Posted March 13, 2014 at 05:59 PM a) can our cars accept a trailer hitch?b) what is the rating if so? If we can tow a few hundred pounds, I wonder if this would maintain better MPG then a roof mounted or trunk mounted bike rack. Also allow a cargo box for long trips.http://www.yakima.com/shop/trailers/trailer/rack-and-roll-
