I noticed that my rotary dial lights up when  I am charging  is this normal.  and can someone explain ev later mode to me

because the book says »  EV Later: puts the vehicle into hybrid mode, reserving the plug-in power  for later.

this has to be false cause I use ev later the most  and when I go to use battery power it is no longer at full charge or full range.

EV Later preserves 95% of the current battery charge.  So every time you start the car the charge level drops.  If you don't charge it, it will eventually be empty.  There is only one battery.  Hybrid mode uses the battery so it can't stay charged to 100%.

I don't think that is accurate.  If it is above 95% charge, it will only preserve 95%.  But if it is anywhere from 0-95% it will keep that % number as the 'target' and allow the charge to vary +2/-5% from there.  So yes, it "could" drop 5% every time you drive the car, it also "could" go up by 2% every time as well.  It is programmed to maintain the % charge when entering EV Later mode.  Reality is it will not likely be exactly the same charge %, but very close.

When you first enter EV Later, it will still use the HV battery for a minute or two until the ICE 'warms up'.  This will drop the charge by a few %, but once the ICE takes over, it will try to charge back to the set point where it was when you entered EV Later.
