AlexMo Posted September 12, 2019 at 04:13 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2019 at 04:13 PM I have noticed a noise that may come from rear brake pads, but it also may be the drive motors, seems worse on damp or wet mornings; goes away after a few miles of driving. Anyone else?
4cylinder Posted September 12, 2019 at 04:37 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2019 at 04:37 PM I've had it happen to me (loud groan while stepping on brake) when reversing after the car has sat through a long thunderstorm. Seems to go away on its own though.
murphy Posted September 12, 2019 at 05:39 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2019 at 05:39 PM If the rotors are wet when the parking brake is applied it will cause the rotor to rust to the brake pad. When you force the car to move it will make a noise when the pads break free from the rotors. It happens to most cars. 4cylinder
pianewman Posted September 12, 2019 at 11:05 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2019 at 11:05 PM ^^^ this...and you might hear the pads/rotors making a scraping sound for the first few revolutions of the wheel. My 35 years of VW experience taught me this...they oxidize/rust overnight in high humidity regions. 4cylinder
