Kristofer Posted December 31, 2018 at 11:01 PM Report Share Posted December 31, 2018 at 11:01 PM 2017 Fusion Energi here. Since I purchased it in 2016, I've been able to start the car and shift the transmission turn knob to D, sometimes in what seems like quick enough succession that the computer says "no" and after a second shifts back to Park, from which I then need to shift it back to D, and all is well. Have others experienced this?
Mr.Fusion Posted January 7, 2019 at 02:14 PM Report Share Posted January 7, 2019 at 02:14 PM Yes- Almost as if I'm "too quick" for the computer to finish doing all their checks before verifying (or ignoring) the gear change. I've started turning the park brake off first before turning the dial to "R" or "D". Usually that extra second is enough for the ECU to "get ready" to go. It's an annoyance. Paul Creed III Posted January 8, 2019 at 02:21 PM Report Share Posted January 8, 2019 at 02:21 PM I have started experiencing the same issue too.
4cylinder Posted February 25, 2019 at 05:40 PM Report Share Posted February 25, 2019 at 05:40 PM If I "rush" things, this tends to happen. I've had to teach myself to "take things slow" - start the car, take a breath, shift to D at a calm pace, disengage the parking brake, and then it's fine. If I try to turn the shifter the way I would spin a combination lock, the car really doesn't like it.
testriderchuck Posted September 9, 2020 at 07:39 PM Report Share Posted September 9, 2020 at 07:39 PM Try this order: 1. start car 2. fasten seat belt while: 3. cursing the stupid seat belt chime 4. select D or R. this gives ECU time to "boot up". Works in a '10 prius, probably others if you can figure out how to turn off the cursed chimes.
