jposs Posted February 7, 2013 at 07:45 PM Report Share Posted February 7, 2013 at 07:45 PM My wife and I have decided to buy either a Hybrid or an Energi, but we have a bit of a dilemma. We are in San Antonio and there aren't as of now any EV certified dealers in town. There are a few 70 miles North in Austin. While buying a car 70 miles away doesn't present much of an issue, if maintenance is going to be required to be done at an authorized EV dealer, there is an issue. I read recently that 900 (or 1 in 3) dealers will have EV certification by Spring. Of course, I am unable to find a list of which dealers will be certified. Has anyone seen what the recommended service intervals are for the Energi, and if so what they entail? By the way I have lurked these forums for the past week or two and have learned a lot of things, so thank you all for your posts.
shaggy314 Posted February 7, 2013 at 11:14 PM Report Share Posted February 7, 2013 at 11:14 PM (edited) I'd call up Northside and McComb and just ask their sales manager when they expect to be certified. If nothing else mention the other's name and say you will just call them then and thank them for the time. Neither will do it if they don't think the public will want it. It's not an insignificant investment and they'd have to stock a Focus electric and an Energi (of either type)... so let them know it's a deal breaker. I wouldn't drive up from San Antonio for warranty work either... even if 35 is a nice drive until you hit Buda. meyersnole Posted February 7, 2013 at 11:22 PM Report Share Posted February 7, 2013 at 11:22 PM Welcome to the forums jposs. I am lucky that in my area where I have multiple dealerships that have certification (per your post I did a quick search to see what the requirements are ( http://www.hybridcars.com/900-ev-certified-ford-dealers-by-spring/ ) and they do not seem too onerous, so one would hope that you would have a local dealership that is going through the certification process. First, I do not believe that maintenance can be required at a particular location -- just required to be performed -- to maintain your warranty. BUT I would also be concerned if my local expert was 70 miles away, and probably would not want to put myself into that situation. My suggestion would be to go talk with your local dealerships, as I would assume they would be very upfront with you about where they are in the process of certification. Let them know you are going from dealership to dealership looking for a certified dealer.
shaggy314 Posted February 8, 2013 at 07:28 PM Report Share Posted February 8, 2013 at 07:28 PM Oh I would bet you have to get warranty maintenance at an EV dealer, just doesn't have to be the purchasing dealer... So maybe buy it from Bruce (my guy @ LJF) up here in Austin and by the time you need it, an SA dealer can do the work.

So maybe buy it from Bruce (my guy @ LJF) up here in Austin and by the time you need it, an SA dealer can do the work. That is what I was thinking as well. There is a black on black Titanium going in at Maxwell but they are selling them for sticker. I read that you got yours for $300 over invoice, is that right? You read my mind, I just got the sticker quote from Maxwell and was coming here to ask for your guy. Would it be ok if I used your name? Sorry I would have PMed all this but I don't have enough posts yet. Thanks again everyone. Also, Maxwell is telling me that they aren't requiring maintenance on the ICE for 150,000 miles but that certainly doesn't sound right. Even if they are using synthetic I would assume it would require at least an oil change every 15-20k miles.
shaggy314 Posted February 9, 2013 at 08:15 AM Report Share Posted February 9, 2013 at 08:15 AM (edited) I'm two short (ok one now). I'll send it to you via private message once I get my next post done. It won't bother me at all. As I mentioned I went back and forth 5 times in total with the quotes in writing. I'm not surprised about Maxwell. Both dealers (LJ & Covert) I was looking at wanted to start at MSRP. I didn't buy it at that price (obviously). Walking away with their offers let them know I was serious. Price dropped fast when they saw me come back and leave. :-) It would be fun to see them when you go in, saying "I know you've made this deal a few weeks ago." If you are done looking and ready to sign (They'll likely want $1000 deposit), I'm betting they'd be happy to swoop another deal from a competitor. I am done looking and am ready to sign with one caveat. I have ordered the brochures in hopes of getting the coupon. That is applied when the vehicle arrives, not when ordered, correct? meyersnole Posted February 9, 2013 at 04:57 PM Report Share Posted February 9, 2013 at 04:57 PM I have my offer written up "Contract of Sale" with both the $1,500 and $750 listed in the deal. I would recommend that you do not sign anything that does not include the rebates. I was told that if something was being offered that was better when my car arrived that I would be able to take advantage of that but I would do no worse then the $2,250 MFR Rebates. Good luck! (The brochures take a while to show up, but they should come with the $750 pvt cash offer).

shaggy314 Posted February 10, 2013 at 03:57 AM Report Share Posted February 10, 2013 at 03:57 AM (edited) I'm 0 - 1 on the $750 coupon with 2 on the way. I feel only a little bad, but I had a friend use my name and order one to his house... I told him I trade a coupon for a steak dinner. EDIT: now 0-2... /cryMy friend got his and it HAD it, but alas it was in his name. DOH, I should have told him to use mine. /morecry Edited February 15, 2013 at 08:15 PM by shaggy314
ChuckJ Posted February 10, 2013 at 01:22 PM Report Share Posted February 10, 2013 at 01:22 PM I got my $750 coupon yesterday also, but it expires March 30th and it says you have to take delivery by that time. That's awfully short for a car that hasn't arrived at the dealer yet and when they tell you that if you order one it will take 6 weeks. jposs Posted February 10, 2013 at 02:09 PM Author Report Share Posted February 10, 2013 at 02:09 PM Shaggy thanks for the PM info, I would reply but you can't even reply to PMs without 50 posts. Ha! Once I go up and order I will make sure that you have two steak dinners coming your way.
meyersnole Posted February 10, 2013 at 05:34 PM Report Share Posted February 10, 2013 at 05:34 PM I got my $750 coupon yesterday also, but it expires March 30th and it says you have to take delivery by that time. That's awfully short for a car that hasn't arrived at the dealer yet and when they tell you that if you order one it will take 6 weeks. ChuckJ I was able to use mine, roughly same expiration date I think, by making the order and leaving a deposit. I think the purpose of the deal is to get you to the dealership now. Of course your mileage may vary. On your second point, most of us around here only wish our dealerships were telling us it would take (only) 6 weeks to order. :shift:
shaggy314 Posted February 11, 2013 at 05:53 PM Report Share Posted February 11, 2013 at 05:53 PM (edited) FYI: LJ Ford is closed Sundays, so call ahead and make sure he's there, I don't know his days off. Thanks for the information. Once I get a coupon in my hot little hands I will head up there and consummate the deal. Should be relatively easy as I will be up there for work nearly all of next week. meyersnole Posted February 13, 2013 at 12:33 AM Report Share Posted February 13, 2013 at 12:33 AM I am sure its on its way if you ordered a brochure, I just got my third one (this time from my other local dealership from my visit I guess). They seem to be pushing hard.
jposs Posted February 13, 2013 at 09:22 PM Author Report Share Posted February 13, 2013 at 09:22 PM I should probably make a thread for this, but I just got my $750 private offer via email today. I was hoping that would happen. I responded to all their email surveys and questions hoping it would trigger one, it did. The coupon claims not good on hybrids so I guess I will test that one. Do the brochure coupons say the same? Offer expires 4/8/2013.
shaggy314 Posted February 13, 2013 at 09:36 PM Report Share Posted February 13, 2013 at 09:36 PM With as many extras that people are ordering, you'd think Ford would catch on and just print the coupon for everyone and not have to do all the duplicates. jposs Posted February 18, 2013 at 03:40 PM Author Report Share Posted February 18, 2013 at 03:40 PM There was an article in the paper yesterday saying that five San Antonio dealers will be receiving their EV certification by the Spring. Glad I took that leap of faith, and nice to know I won't have to drive up to Austin for maintenance!

I left mine with the dealer, but it had very few exclusions. I can remember the Mustang 302 boss, I have another coupon in the back of my brochure at work, I can check tomorrow. I do notice that it calls out the CMAX energi as a different car then a Ford hybrid. Might be worth a shot.

Glad I took that leap of faith, and nice to know I won't have to drive up to Austin for maintenance! My salesman said somebody came up from San Antonio on Saturday... also said that nobody else is getting that good of a deal as dealers are circling the wagons and are able to get MSRP with the demand... FusionEnergi Posted February 24, 2013 at 02:21 AM Report Share Posted February 24, 2013 at 02:21 AM If your going for mostly short trips buy the Energi, if you travel over 100 miles a day you may want to consider the hybrid.

My $750 coupon expired on 3/4/13 and I took delivery 3/26. The dealer so no and, for now, Ford is backing them up. What the did was split the difference with me.
