luckyleo Posted March 11, 2018 at 04:58 PM Report Share Posted March 11, 2018 at 04:58 PM (edited) I have been having problems with MFM losing communication. MFM phone support said I needed the firmware to the modem updated to 1.4.4 and only the dealer could perform this. Took about an hour. I get home and still not working. Dealer says bring it in next week. MFM phone support says it is still 1.4.3. Dealer has it for two days and tries to say my iPhone software is not up to date. MFM support says the dealer is not a recognized EV dealer and to go elsewhere. I drive 25 miles to a dealer who “has an idea” of what needs to be done. An hour later they have no clue. Anyone experiencing this? Almost at the end of my warranty and getting worried what incompetent dealers may charge for software updates that take days to figure out. I was taking the car in for the steering wheel bolt replacement recall and the works oil change and decided to try yet another dealer for the embedded modem update. Big mistake.I told them I am using their dealership since it is an EV certified dealership. They said there is no such thing. I guess this was my clue to leave immediately. This is another incompetent service area that does not know what they are doing. I dropped the car off Thursday morning and may get it back on Monday. I was told that it was frozen and they are trying to get it back. They also told me, "We told you not to do this update". How difficult is it to perform a firmware update and why do they keep telling me it can take 5 hours and if it stops they have to start from scratch. So I finally got the firmware updated to 1.4.6 and also got the steering wheel bolt recall completed. As I went to drive away, the airbag fell into my lap. I really hate dealing with dealerships, just send me the parts and I will do it myself (I know Ford would not let that happen). Phatman Posted April 9, 2018 at 09:30 PM Report Share Posted April 9, 2018 at 09:30 PM I have the same question. Except mine is out of warranty. They said only the dealer can up grade firmware. Has anyone try to DIY?
mortonch Posted April 9, 2018 at 10:08 PM Report Share Posted April 9, 2018 at 10:08 PM I am just going through the process to get my 2014 Ford Fusion Energi modem/TCU firmware updated. The MyFordMobile rep went through the issues with me and told me to schedule an appointment with a dealership to get the Modem/TCU firmware updated from 1.4.3 to 1.4.7. It should be updated under warranty because the warranty for that part was extended after the part was replaced under the recall. When I go here, https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/maintenance/recalls.html?pagename=Owner/Page/RecallsPage%3fgnav=footer-owner, I see this: "SYNC WITH MYFORD MYLINCOLN TOUCH WARRANTY EXTENSION COVERING ACCESSORY PROTOCOL INTERFACE MODULE APIM" with a Field Service Action Number 12M02. She also mentioned a Service Message Number of 47198 which should give the tech the instructions on how to perform the upgrade. I printed out the information and am putting it on a paper in the car so the tech has it handy when taking it in for service. I called the dealership just to describe the issue and he asserted that his "hybrid person' knows how to perform this action. I will report back. @Phatman, I hope you got your warranty extended on that part like I did when it was upgraded to 3G under the recall. The Honeybadger Posted April 28, 2018 at 09:53 PM Report Share Posted April 28, 2018 at 09:53 PM Just to update everyone here if they are having issues with getting their firmware updated. I just picked up my 2017 platinum energi from my dealer after they worked to get the modem updated. Everything is now working as it should. They tried to perform the software update but it still did not seem to work. They then contacted the Ford Techline for assistance and after about 4 days and possibly some stumped engineers they responded and gave the tech some diagnostics to check. After going through those they determined that the modem needed to be replaced. After they ordered that in the were able to program it properly and let me know it was finally working as it should. Picked it up from my dealer, which by the way is not an EV dealer, and was able to immediately register the vehicle and utilize all the app functions. If you still are having issues with not being able to get the firmware updated to 1.4.4 then I would suggest having them contact the Ford Techline for assistance since they are probably well versed in this issue now. Hope this helps luckyleo

cegarbage Posted May 23, 2018 at 02:19 AM Report Share Posted May 23, 2018 at 02:19 AM I had the modem swapped out about 2 years ago. I had it swapped out right when the update came out, cant remember how long ago it was. Now i have 50k miles on the car, and my ford mobile told me i needed 1.4.6. Dealer wanted to charge me $129 to fix it and i declined. What additional warranty coverage came with the 3g modem?

It turned out to work for me. I hope that last. I do some where on this forum that it worked for only a few months and it would go dead again. The instructions to reset the fuse is in this forum somewhere. If you search fuse you should find it. Thanks again for your help.
cegarbage Posted May 23, 2018 at 03:39 AM Report Share Posted May 23, 2018 at 03:39 AM I got mine working by pulling the fuse, too. However, I still want to get the firmware upgrade and curious to know what people paid, or if done under warranty.
