murphy Posted February 2, 2013 at 09:23 PM Report Share Posted February 2, 2013 at 09:23 PM I've been checking the main Ford web site periodically for the Energi Owners Guide and getting a statement (in red) that it wasn't available. I was browsing through the Fusion Hybrid forum and came across the following link. http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdirs/retail/default.asp?pageid=&gutsid=&kevin=rules Look under "Non-Subscription Resources" for "Owner Guides" The document doesn't have a title page but appears to be the Energi Guide. :)
FusionEnergi Posted February 23, 2013 at 05:42 PM Report Share Posted February 23, 2013 at 05:42 PM (edited) I find it very intriguing what I read in the manual on page 9 & 10. The implementation of the "Little Black box" or the vehicles Event Data Recorder which is designed to record data, such as:• How various systems in your vehicle were operating; whether or not the driver and passenger safety belts were buckled/fastened; how far (if at all) the driver was depressing the accelerator and/or the brake pedal; and how fast the vehicle was travelling; and where the driver was positioning the steering wheel. But dont worry it states:However, parties, such as law enforcement, could combine the event data recorder data with the type of personally identifying data routinely acquired during a crash investigation. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer, other parties, such as law enforcement, that have such special equipment, can read the information if they have access to the vehicle or the event data recorder. Ford Motor Company and Ford of Canada do not access event data recorder information without obtaining consent, unless pursuant to court order or where required by law enforcement, other government authorities or other third parties acting with lawful authority. Other parties may seek to access the information independently of Ford Motor Company and Ford of Canada.Better get a great lawyer. Sounds like if you turned the wheel or gave throttle to try to avoid the accident you may be .......... and (possibly) if you were talking on the phone or playing your music - (Various systems in you vehicle). Nothing like my big brother watching out for me & U! Edited February 23, 2013 at 05:43 PM by FusionEnergi
jeff_h Posted February 23, 2013 at 06:39 PM Report Share Posted February 23, 2013 at 06:39 PM Nothing like my big brother watching out for me & U! I think it will only be a year or two before these are made mandatory on all new cars, most people (me included) probably dislike the invasion of privacy beyond simple stats gathering for a crash follow-up. Doesn't seem too far of a stretch to have that system become someone tracking/transmitting your every move... could be the tinfoil hat talking, but a slippery slope nonetheless... however claims by safety advocates is that it can be used to investigate/prevent X thousand future crashes and deaths, claims by insurance companies that it can save X millions of dollars in fraudulent claims, and whatever else, will probably mean that privacy interests will take a back seat and these will be mandatory -- my 2¢ anyway. FusionEnergi Posted February 23, 2013 at 07:18 PM Report Share Posted February 23, 2013 at 07:18 PM That's why I did not get the eye camera package, what if I blinked or sneezed. It's over.....Some good seems to always brings a little bad.Dont get me wrong I think technology is great. I just want the control, not it controlling me! TX NRG Posted February 24, 2013 at 12:12 AM Report Share Posted February 24, 2013 at 12:12 AM A friend of mine was involved in an unfortunate accident about 9 years ago while working when a tire suddenly blew out on the company van he was driving on the highway resulting in a rollover into oncoming traffic with injuries and fatalities. The data recorder information showed he was traveling 3 mph below the speed limit and was not at fault. That information quickly exonerated him and he avoided a long personal litigation battle which would have overlapped his long recovery period. I'm not a fan of Big Brother data collection, but wanted to point out a case where the info proved helpful.
FusionEnergi Posted February 24, 2013 at 12:59 AM Report Share Posted February 24, 2013 at 12:59 AM Wow, i now see a light. I am glad it worked out to show your friend was not a fault. The glass is now half full, no longer half empty. Its all how you look at it. As long as you are not at fault of course
ChuckJ Posted February 26, 2013 at 03:39 PM Report Share Posted February 26, 2013 at 03:39 PM Did you guys see the news article on the Russian drivers with dash camera's to have proof that the accident wasn't their fault. They have caught some of the strangest things. ChuckJ
Scooter80 Posted February 26, 2013 at 05:13 PM Report Share Posted February 26, 2013 at 05:13 PM Thanks for finding this link! I've been trying to get some official answers to some questions as the dealers seem more confused than the media. This is the ticket! As far as black boxes go, I'm all for them. I'm a cop and have seen firsthand some ugly ugly crashes, a lot resulting in deaths or disabilities. I must say, these make life a whole lot easier to live after dealing with one of these tough crashes. Takes a lot of guesswork away and we can go on living, knowing the right conclusion was reached. Science doesn't lie, withhold evidence, or deceive. People do. And these boxes, though admittedly not to the extent or sophistication as today, have been in cars for over a decade, though only accessible by extensive means. So I wouldn't don the tinfoil yet! ;-)
