RonRN18 Posted February 2, 2018 at 10:11 PM Report Share Posted February 2, 2018 at 10:11 PM We have a 2018 Fusion Energi that is just about 1 month old. It gets driven nearly every day; generally, around 200 miles a day, as my wife's commute sucks! It charges every night and is fully charged each morning. We are now having issues where the car won't start initially and sends a message saying "12-volt battery is low." The display in the car shows a message saying that something is off to conserve battery, but once I hit the start button a second time, everything functions properly. I have an appointment for Monday morning at our local Ford dealer (a couple days away) but find this quite odd for a brand-new car. I also have a 2016 Ford C-MAX Energi and have never seen anything like this.
murphy Posted February 2, 2018 at 10:20 PM Report Share Posted February 2, 2018 at 10:20 PM (edited) Make sure that they load test the 12 volt battery. It sounds like it is failing. Either that or something is not turning off when the car is turned off. There was at least one period in the past where they got a bad batch of batteries from their supplier. After the HVB finishes charging do you leave the EVSE connected? That is when the 12 volt battery is charged if it needs it. (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment - the charger is built into the car) Edited February 2, 2018 at 10:23 PM by murphy cr08

It stayed on the charger until I started the car at about 8:12 AM this morning. I drove it for a short distance and parked. For a while, I was getting hammered with warnings of the 12-volt battery is low. I got home at 11:30 and got the last message as I was plugging the car in. murphy Posted February 3, 2018 at 09:12 PM Report Share Posted February 3, 2018 at 09:12 PM The 12 volt battery is charged upon completion of the HVB charge. When that finishes the 12 volt battery will not be charged again unless another charge cycle of the HVB is initiated. The car can remain plugged in and the 12 volt battery can go completely dead The car does not monitor it. My car sometimes sits for a week without being driven. In that situation I connect a smart battery charger to the 12 volt terminals under the hood to keep the 12 volt battery charged. When the car is off the HVB is completely disconnected and will not lose any charge. Are you using the app to check on the car? I have measured a current spike in excess of 10 amps when the app connects to the car.via a Ford server.
