abwdvm Posted October 15, 2017 at 01:35 AM Report Share Posted October 15, 2017 at 01:35 AM I am about to purchase a used 2017 Titanium. It has less than 10k miles. Only option it does not have is the sunroof. They are asking 24k for it. Drove it today, and it's like new. I could not find anything wrong. Off lease, clean Carfax. Is this a decent price? Dealership wants to sell us a $1600 6yr 100,000 mile extended warranty from Ford. I'm thinking no thanks.
jj2me Posted October 15, 2017 at 02:39 AM Report Share Posted October 15, 2017 at 02:39 AM That's a decent price if the HV Battery has not degraded. You can compare pricing of the official Ford extended warranty at floodfordesp.com. You can read others' opinions on whether you should get the extended warranty in the subforum "Buying, Leasing, & Ordering". That's what made me decide to get one, and I usually self-insure. muzicman61 Posted October 15, 2017 at 05:10 PM Report Share Posted October 15, 2017 at 05:10 PM I picked up my 2017 FFE Titanium with 7500 miles in June. It was a fully loaded factory exec and had the sun/moon roof. I paid $23K. The dealership offered me a 6yr/120,000 warranty for $1600 and I took it. They originally tried to sell me the warranty for $2800 and I was able to talk them down. Most dealerships will bargain on the warranty. I took the warranty because I do drive about 20,000 miles a year and given all the computers, electronics and sensors the car has, I figured if even one of them failed it would be worth it. Normally I agree extended warranties are not worth it but this was the first one I ever purchased. I guess it's like an insurance policy to me. Fezbearer Posted October 15, 2017 at 09:36 PM Report Share Posted October 15, 2017 at 09:36 PM In general, I'm not a big fan of extended warranties. That said, I did make an exception when I purchased my FFE SE a few months ago. Like Muzikman61, I felt it was worth it considering how many computers and electronics are in the car. Personally, I'd get it, just for the peace of mind. I'd also haggle and see if you can get the price knocked down.
Russael Posted October 16, 2017 at 01:47 PM Report Share Posted October 16, 2017 at 01:47 PM I'm a pretty big supporter of vehicle extended warranties by the manufacturer. My first vehicle that I had bought, a 1999 Expedition (which I still have), paid for the warranty probably 3 or 4 times over. SO much stuff wore out prematurely, or cooked itself, or went defective for no apparent reason. For my 2013 Fusion Energi, I purchased a 7 year, 60k mile warranty from Flood Ford for about 770. Since it is a genuine Ford warranty, it can be used nationwide. I've already taken advantage of the factory warranty several times. But now I'm on the extended one. Now, I don't like 3rd party extended warranties... I get an ad in the mail probably once every quarter telling me my factory warranty is expired. To be fair, I've never actually bought or used one, nor know anybody who has.
muzicman61 Posted October 17, 2017 at 12:15 PM Report Share Posted October 17, 2017 at 12:15 PM I agree with Russael. I don't trust 3rd party warranties. My gut tells me they are a scam. I have no evidence to that and don't know anyone who has used them. But I do get a monthly call on my cell phone trying to sell me a warranty on a vehicle I no longer own. And when I get a person on the phone and tell them to take my name off their calling list, they typically just hang up on me. Maybe there are some valid 3rd party warranties but a few scammers have spoiled it for the rest.
murphy Posted October 17, 2017 at 04:34 PM Report Share Posted October 17, 2017 at 04:34 PM I keep getting letters telling me my factory warranty has expired and I should buy theirs. My factory extended warranty doesn't expire until 2020.
jj2me Posted October 17, 2017 at 05:12 PM Report Share Posted October 17, 2017 at 05:12 PM On an auto radio show I listen to, the panelists/shop owners usually disparage them, saying that sometimes they spend more time on the phone with the warranty company than fixing the car. One independent shop owner said he no longer accepts new customers with warrantees.
