mcyhanick Posted September 26, 2017 at 01:03 PM Report Share Posted September 26, 2017 at 01:03 PM Hey all, I am new to these parts but not without a question. I am sure someone here knows what to do... I just bought a used 2014 Ford Fusion Energi SE Luxury with 40k miles on it at my local ford dealer. I attempted to add my vehicle to my own myford mobile account and I currently have the step 3 confirmation stage showing when I click on my car in MFM. Its been 2 days and I still have yet to see this elusive screen its promising me will show up. I can't confirm the car so I can enable MFM tracking. Any ideas what i can do to help it out? I was reading that some people pull a fuse? Not sure which one if that's really the fix. Melissa P

I was reading that some people pull a fuse? Not sure which one if that's really the fix.The important question is was the recall installed to replace the now useless 2G data modem with a 3G data modem? Turn the car onPress the gear icon in the center screenPress the Help iconPress System InformationPress down arrowDoes the CPPM ESN: entry start with the letterT If it does not, the recall has not been performed. AT&T shut down its 2G network 12/31/2016. Communication with the car is not possible anymore with a 2G modem.See your dealer for the recall and make sure he understands that he is not installing a replacement 2G modem. It must be a brand new 3G modem. There is no charge for this recall. IF it does start with the letter T pulling fuse 10 for a few minutes will reset the data modem. The fuse panel is above the left side of the driver's feet. It is extremely difficult to get to. A much easier approach is to disconnect the negative lead of the 12 volt battery in the trunk. The only downside is the engine loses its learned timings and has to relearn them. Go to https://owner.ford.com and create an account if you don't already have one. That website will display all of the outstanding recalls for your car.Tell him that you want all of them done. There is no charge for installing recalls. There may be one that is just a warranty extension for the APIM. That one only applies if your APIM module fails. mcyhanick

mcyhanick Posted September 30, 2017 at 11:50 AM Author Report Share Posted September 30, 2017 at 11:50 AM Scheduled my car for recall repairs. Turns out I had 2 recalls and those 2 warranty repairs. One for a seat belt issue, another for a door latch, the modem and the apim.
Stephen70 Posted February 26, 2018 at 02:46 PM Report Share Posted February 26, 2018 at 02:46 PM I just bought my 2017 Fusion Energi and I cannot get the last step of the confirmation in the car as well. I look up the ESN and don’t get anything, which kind of leads me to wonder if the modem may be the culprit. I suppose that if the modem failed completely or if it wasn’t there, I would not have any ESN to reference?

Reconnect the battery. The alternative is standing on your head in the driver foot well so you can see the fuse panel and disconnecting fuse #10 for 1 minute. Either way does a complete reset of the modem. Then check to see if you now have an ESN. Ammarmalhas

Malone192 Posted October 21, 2019 at 02:09 AM Report Share Posted October 21, 2019 at 02:09 AM Hello! I am having the same issue with my modem/app. I couldn’t confirm my car. I realized that i still had the old 2G modem so I got a new one installed in my dealership. The new modem is in the car but it still won’t confirm. When i called Ford’s support line, they said that the ESN number of the new modem (that was just installed) isn’t activated/attached to my car’s vin number. They told me to call the dealership since it’s there fault. I called the dealership and haven’t heard anything back (it’s been 4 weeks now). I’m at a loss of ideas of what to do to get the app to confirm my car.
jasper7821 Posted July 30, 2021 at 05:31 PM Report Share Posted July 30, 2021 at 05:31 PM Searched and cannot find out what’s wrong with my system. Cannot connect to the app anymore. It used to quit often and disconnecting the battery fixed it. It does have a 3G modem. I deleted the car and cannot re-sync now. Haven’t pulled tie use yet, (at work) but since disconnecting the battery several times, I’m guessing removing the fuse isn’t going to help. It’s a 2014 Energi. Any suggestions? maybe have to install another modem ?
murphy Posted July 30, 2021 at 07:47 PM Report Share Posted July 30, 2021 at 07:47 PM How long did you leave the battery disconnected? All of the power has to drain away before it is reconnected. You are approaching the end of 3G. AT&T 3G (what the car uses) gets shutdown in February 2022.

I removed the fuse for about an hour and still nothing. Still says CPPM ESN: Unknown. Also disconnected the negative side of the battery for an hour as well and still nothing. Also, I cannot find the modem. Different sites said on the underneath side of the parcel rack. Only thing there is the ducting for the cabin air to the battery. 2015 Energi. And you say 3G gets shutdown 2/22. Then what, no more remote access to the car ? Thank You
murphy Posted August 4, 2021 at 10:22 AM Report Share Posted August 4, 2021 at 10:22 AM I never found the modem but i did read that access to it was from the top of the parcel shelf. It may be in or close to the driver side C pillar. The answer to 3G shutdown is unknown to me. When 2G was shutdown Ford installed a 3G modem for free. LTE was already in use and IMHO they should have installed a 4G modem. I solved the problem by trading my 2013 Energi in on a 2021 Mach-E. Really wish I could find it and change it out, there's nothing on top or below the parcel shelf except the HV battery ducting on bottom and on top vent grills, seat fold down latches, and child seat hooks. It get's 110 here in the desert and my car is parked 10hrs in the direct sun at work. I have a temp gauge inside and it was 167 degrees. Even if it gets shut down in Feb, I'd still love to recondition the car when I leave work. Only thing I found while searching Telematics location is this, but this is the OBD. https://btcgps.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Fusion-Ford-Telematics-Install-AMFL3J-70G476-AA-Rev-1.pdf
murphy Posted August 4, 2021 at 03:51 PM Report Share Posted August 4, 2021 at 03:51 PM According to the 2013 wiring diagram manual it is as high as is possible on the right side of the car, probably behind a panel, in the trunk. The component location view is a gray scale print that leaves a lot to be desired in the way of detail. Look for a large cable bundle coming from the driver side of the car. It drops straight down for a bit then continues toward the right as a smaller bundle. It splits into a small cable that goes toward the back of the car and a slightly larger cable that goes straight up to the TCU. The TCU is not very big. Everything it needs to do can be done in a single integrated circuit.

I'll look again but I looked all in the trunk on both sides, I peeled back some of the liner on the right side last night and only wire bundles I saw was for the lights. I'll pull out the liners tonight and see what i can see. Thank You

jasper7821 Posted August 4, 2021 at 10:59 PM Report Share Posted August 4, 2021 at 10:59 PM WOW, thank you very much. Since I found nothing on/under the parcel shelf, looks like it's next to the taillight harness. I'll pull that sides covers off and see what I find. Thanks again. jasper7821 Posted August 6, 2021 at 06:04 PM Report Share Posted August 6, 2021 at 06:04 PM (edited) WOW, finally found the modem. Can see the part number from a little hole in the trunk. And now need to take the parcel shelf off to remove the modem. The Ford replacement file in my last post has a part number for my Fusion Energi of HS7Z-14G229-Q, but the part number Ford installed a few years ago is HS7T-14G087-ED. Just curious which modem I should try to buy. And just talked to the dealer and they said for my VIN, the P/N is DS7Z-14G229-A. But if I buy it and it's not it, I'm stuck with it. And I can't find a used one out there. Edited August 6, 2021 at 06:35 PM by jasper7821
