What's the Purpose of EV Now?

The EV Now setting seems redundant. Whenever you put the setting to Auto it automatically uses the EV first until it's discharged anyway.

What am I missing, here?

Read this link below, it'll give you a better understanding of the EVNow, EVLater and Auto modes. I never use Auto mode and manage the HVB using EVNow and EVLater.  Since I've been aggressively managing the HVB. I now see EV Miles, after charging between 22 and 25 miles. Before this, my EV Miles after charging was, 17 to 19 miles. I thought the HVB was failing. It was using EVNow at all times and using up the HVB at highway speeds, which is a very inefficient use of the HVB.  The computer will estimate EV Miles, after charging, considering the way the FFE was last driven. This includes heater and AC use.

Use either AUTO or EV Later.

Auto allows for the engine to start in case you floor it and need power fast.

EV now will disable the engine so flooring it accelerates only on EV power.

EV now lowers the engine starting threshold while using heat in the winter.  Useful in that case.

EV now can show you max electric power if you want to impress your friends.  In my case I found it accelerated just as fast as my old 1984 Mercedes 190E 4 speed with a 2 liter engine.

Auto shows you ICE threshold in Empower screen, very useful in hybrid mode.

EV now shows you the expected range of the car on the map.

Each mode has its values, you just have to learn what works best in what situation.
