murphy Posted April 27, 2017 at 10:36 AM Report Share Posted April 27, 2017 at 10:36 AM Hi, can someone explain what Value Charging is? Thanks! If your power company charges different rates, depending on what time of day it is, then you program the car to only charge when the lowest rate is in effect. My power company charges the same rate 24 hours a day so I have never used value charging.
calidude Posted April 27, 2017 at 11:57 AM Author Report Share Posted April 27, 2017 at 11:57 AM So let's say I have it on value charging starring at 9pm. When I get home from work at 6pm, I'll plug in my car and nothing will happen until 9pm right? Also, Do I need to unplug as soon as it's done charging? And is charging it everyday ok? I commute long distances to work everyday so I know I'm going to use the battery up everyday.
Timewellspent Posted April 27, 2017 at 12:06 PM Report Share Posted April 27, 2017 at 12:06 PM My rates are the same as well, but I still have it set to value charge to start at 1am. So when I get home I plug in right away and the fan will run to help cool the battery down, but it will not start charging until 1am. You do not need to unplug until you are ready to leave for your commute.
Timewellspent Posted April 27, 2017 at 12:07 PM Report Share Posted April 27, 2017 at 12:07 PM I should add that I'm still having an issue with the charging profiles, which Ford says has been corrected. Only my default works (home and work profiles still don't work after new modem was installed).
calidude Posted April 27, 2017 at 12:24 PM Author Report Share Posted April 27, 2017 at 12:24 PM Ok gotcha. Thanks for all this helpful information! And charging everyday is fine?
murphy Posted April 27, 2017 at 12:49 PM Report Share Posted April 27, 2017 at 12:49 PM I sometimes charge multiple times per day. I have to believe that Ford programmed the car to protect the battery given the 8 year warranty on the battery. I also don't believe that when the battery is charged to 100% that the battery is actually charged to 100%. Lithium ion battery charging has to slow way down as it approaches 100%. There is almost no slow down as my Energi approaches 100%. jj2me

Then it will stop until the value time is reached. However of you have Go Times set and it can't reach full charge by that time it will start the charging earlier. I've only had my car a little over a week now but that is my understanding from reading the manual and a few FAQs.
