jaydubau Posted April 25, 2017 at 02:30 AM Report Share Posted April 25, 2017 at 02:30 AM Newbie question. I was playing with my car's infotainment system. I noticed on one screen it allowed the car to get on a local wifi. What's the purpose for that? What can I download? Updates? Thanks in advance
Kaleido Posted April 25, 2017 at 10:07 AM Report Share Posted April 25, 2017 at 10:07 AM I use it because I don't have a cell phone and it's my only way to connect my car to my computer.

Thanks in advanceThe original plan, back in 2013, was to get a USB to cellular dongle to provide internet access for your kids in the back seat. I don't know if anyone ever found one that worked. The Energi already has a cellular modem built in to the car to support My Ford Mobile. They should have allowed the WiFi system to use that to get to the internet. Russael Posted April 25, 2017 at 11:54 AM Report Share Posted April 25, 2017 at 11:54 AM Ford says the system can connect to WiFi to download its updates (your car to an access point). They started doing that for Sync 3. The original MyFord Touch also allows you to connect to WiFi, but it serves absolutely no purpose. Going the other way is as Murphy describes (devices to car).
