I replaced it with a new battery and now the car will only run with the gas engine. When I press the Ev now button the message says that mode is not available. One remote possibility is that with a dead 12 volt battery the ICE has lost its operating parameters and must be driven for some period of time to relearn them. ICE is the only choice given (no EV now or EV later option available)The oil was changed last month and reset (no pop oil change reminders) Everything else is working normally after the new 12 volt battery was installed. I hate to take it into Ford as the car is now out of warranty. Hoping it is a reset button somewhere or something easy that I can do. When you say EV+Now and EV+Later are unavailable do you mean the icons are X'd out or are they colored orange? Does the car ever switch to EV or is the ICE literally running 100% of the time? Do you have an OBD reader? When mine had the EV+Now and EV+Later modes X'd out it was because of a fault. In my case the car was stuck in EV+Auto and would not use the ICE at all until the HVB discharged. There was a code stored in the computer but it was not activating the check engine light. The code was an electric heater fault and I took it into the dealer and they replaced the electric heater assembly and I haven't had a problem since. You'll definitely want to see if a DTC is stored. The only things I know of that would X out the EV modes are 1) a discharged HVB or 2) a fault. Timewellspent 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If it gets to be 18 months old the ICE will run until all but 1/8 tank has been used. The burn can be aborted by putting gas in the tank. Only other things that come to mind is if it is bitterly cold (like below 0 F) - the car will run on the engine a vast majority of the time if you're running climate. But if your motor NEVER shuts off... If it isn't that either... you could always try removing the negative battery cable on your 12v, letting it sit for a few minutes, and reconnecting it and see if that resets all the modules and lets it start behaving normally again. 10 minutes of inconvenience or a lot more time at the stealership. Bay area of northern California, usually in the 50 to 80 degree range. I hooked up a scanner last night and no codes. I will try disconnecting the battery tonight and see if that does it. The car does shut the ICE off at stops and restarts but does not use the HVB. It drives like a standard hybrid with a very heavy not used battery on board. It is going in and out of EV even if only while do so in hybrid mode. It's strange that there are no codes though. After I filled up I still got the "running in gas mode, blah blah blah..." message. after driving on the freeway for several miles the EV started working. It seems the counter/calendar for the fresh fuel calculator got messed up when the 12V battery died. It took 2 tanks of gas for it to reset or so it seems. Car is working normal again.
