openair Posted February 24, 2017 at 01:31 AM Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 at 01:31 AM I've experienced this a few times over the past year. Starting at the drive in theatre with the ac on, then a couple times with the heat on (could accept this as normal) and now today with the climate controls completely off. The vehicle is parked for 10+ minutes, in auto, with 25% to 75%+ charge of the hvb in all instances and the engine starts, runs for about 30 seconds and then stops. The time it occurred at the drive in theatre I shut down the vehicle and started it again and the engine did not run for the rest of the two hours parked there in exactly the same conditions. It may only occur when the vehicle is parked after having been placed in Ev later for a period before being parked. Anyone else experience similar? bdginmo Posted February 24, 2017 at 02:12 AM Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 at 02:12 AM (edited) Did the ICE ever warm up prior to the vehicle being in EV Auto? I ask because mine will start the ICE while in EV Auto if the ICE had started and warmed up while in EV Later prior to me switching back to EV Auto. I have a ScanGauge and observed the magic threshold to be when the coolant temperature drops to 110F. I think there may be other variables that determine whether it kicks on to rewarm itself though because it doesn't always happen. But, when it does happen the coolant temperature is always 110F. I believe mine will restart the ICE while the transmission is in park. Edited February 24, 2017 at 02:14 AM by bdginmo

murphy Posted February 24, 2017 at 11:51 AM Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 at 11:51 AM From spring through fall I drive in EV Now and the engine never starts unless I completely discharge the HVB.
bdginmo Posted February 24, 2017 at 03:45 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 at 03:45 PM I haven't tested this, but I suspect if the ICE has warmed up (from being run in EF Later) and then you switch to EV Now it will not restart the ICE to keep it warmed up whereas it might if it were in EV Auto.
