Samsung SDI Announced Next Generation Battery For 600 km (373 Mile) BEVs, Rechargeable In 20 Minutes!

A lot of vaporware in this article. I do not see where they specify what kind of infrastructure is required for the 20 minute charge, and not expected to ship until 2021 but it is a positive that announcements like this are happening.

Why is the first thing I thought of was the Note 7 and exploding batteries? :)

So let's think about this for a second... 20 minutes for an 80% charge.  Just comparing to a Tesla pack of 100kw, you'd have to dump 80kw in to it within 20 minutes... that'd require at least a 240kw service not counting the typical inefficiencies.  In order to do that, you'd need cables as big around as your wrist, unless they upped the voltage to something nuts, like maybe 1,000v at 240a.  So what... charging stations are going to be connected to commercial grade transformers which are directly connected to 50kv power lines? :)

The only way I could potentially see that is if they used like a super capacitor that could store the energy and be able to dump it fast... and then it'd have to recharge itself again at a lower rate before being able to provide another 20 minute fast charge.

The leaf has a very small battery pack in relation to a Tesla's 100kw pack (I believe the Leaf is around 30kw).  In order to charge a battery pack 3+ times as large in the same time frame requires FAR more energy flow.  Tesla's superchargers can charge at a rate of 125kw/h, so it can get a Tesla pack to 80% in about 45 minutes.  You double that charge rate to get it down to 20 minutes.
