EV battery range loss of 50% not covered under warranty

Trading in my 31000 mile Energi for another brand, feeling foolish driving EV with a range of 11 miles. Not a typo EV owners - 11 miles. Took really good care of car 100% garaged and always fully discharged and fully charged!

Escalated to Ford and they say that is normal, new dealer says this 42k msrp car is worth 12k, watch out ev buyers. The fusion is a nice car but the ev feature is worthless, just a fact, at least for me.

The number of miles is not a good barometer due to the number of variables like weather, driving terrain/style, etc.

How many kWh are used in a full driving cycle for your car?  When my wife's car was new it was generally around 5.2-5.5kWh for a full drive cycle, that's now down to 3.9-4.1 (car now has 58k miles) which is definitely degraded but not down 50% from new.

How fast do you drive?  What mpg do you get in hybrid mode?  Do you use the air conditioner?

If the battery got down to 50% capacity, would it not fail at some point close to that?  Once it fails then Ford would have to replace it as long as it was in the power-train warranty period, right? (Capacity, not predicted range)

I have learned a lot about batteries since purchasing this car and reading this forum. Would have loved to have had 50% of that knowledge going into the purchase  :)

I agree the battery should last longer and that 50% degradation should trigger the warranty. However this is not really good care.

Li-on batteries do not have memory as the once ubiquitous nicads did. Fully discharging a Li-on causes degradation. Fully charging a Li-on causes degradation. Leaving it fully charged for extended periods of time causes degradation. Level 2 charging a battery as small as the one in these also causes much more degradation than level 2 charging a larger battery (made of more cells). If you're buying another Ev do not wait until it is fully discharged to charge it. Try to use things like value charge profiles to have the battery reach full charge shortly before driving the vehicle.

Some full Evs have options to only charge the battery to 80% to improve longevity of the battery.

Sure would be nice if Ford put this kind of information in the manual...
