Pg3ibew Posted December 16, 2016 at 02:22 AM Report Share Posted December 16, 2016 at 02:22 AM We had a massive cold snap here in NYC. Temps in the high teens/low 20s for almost 48 hours straight. I unplugged my car this morning. Closed the cap. Out all day. I came home and the cap APPEARS to be frozen. I was able to get it open with multiple pushes. It came out partially and had to be COAXED the rest of the way. Anyone else with similar issues??

Vintre Posted December 18, 2016 at 01:52 PM Report Share Posted December 18, 2016 at 01:52 PM The temps warmed up today. I haven't had any issues!!Same here. Door working normally. Has to be something about the design and cold weather. If it isnt cold enough and acting up I wont be going to the dealership. Lets see if it happens again when it gets colder. Vintre Posted December 18, 2016 at 02:44 PM Report Share Posted December 18, 2016 at 02:44 PM Spoke too soon! Its -4C this morning and door is stuck again. Cant believe Im saying this but I hope the cold stays long enough for my dealership appointment, now on Tuesday. Has to be something about the spring not functioning in the cold. Let you know how it turns out. Vin
murphy Posted December 18, 2016 at 04:20 PM Report Share Posted December 18, 2016 at 04:20 PM Sounds to me like there is moisture in there that froze rock hard.
Pg3ibew Posted December 18, 2016 at 06:04 PM Author Report Share Posted December 18, 2016 at 06:04 PM I am almost sure it is the cold weather and I agree that moisture must be getting in and freezing the mechanism.
Vintre Posted December 20, 2016 at 03:45 PM Report Share Posted December 20, 2016 at 03:45 PM Of course the temp rises just enough today when I drop the vehicle off at the dealership the door is working. Lets see if they do anything. Vin

Vintre Posted December 21, 2016 at 03:44 AM Report Share Posted December 21, 2016 at 03:44 AM Update: I dropped the vehicle off this morning and it warmed up a bit, like I said, I think enough for the port door to open up as normal. The technician said that the locating pin was slightly bent and holding the door from opening. I call BS! The pin is in on the inside of the door on the opposite side of the spring mechanism. I couldn't argue much as the door was opening but I asked, why if it was the pin, that I had to manually push the door to the open position even after the pin had cleared. Anyways, its early in the Winter and it will get colder, so lets see. Vin
Pg3ibew Posted December 22, 2016 at 12:33 AM Author Report Share Posted December 22, 2016 at 12:33 AM If the pin was bent, it would give you a hard time ALL THE TIME.
Vintre Posted December 22, 2016 at 03:53 AM Report Share Posted December 22, 2016 at 03:53 AM If the pin was bent, it would give you a hard time ALL THE TIME. Yup. Like I said, I call BS on the "fix". When it gets cold again we will see. Today it's 0C (32F) so not cold enough. Vin

Vintre Posted December 23, 2016 at 01:45 AM Report Share Posted December 23, 2016 at 01:45 AM I read on another site, I think it was for the Cmax, that this happened and they replaced the charging ring, which includes the door and that fixed the issue. If it happens again, I will be asking for a new charging ring assembly. Vin Pg3ibew
Vintre Posted January 4, 2017 at 11:57 PM Report Share Posted January 4, 2017 at 11:57 PM It was nice and cold today, -5C or 23F, and surprise, the door was stuck. I went directly to the dealership and this time, they said that the seal was compromised and ice had formed inside the arm. New charge ring ordered and will be installed tomorrow afternoon. Let you know how it turns out. Vin
Pg3ibew Posted January 5, 2017 at 04:11 PM Author Report Share Posted January 5, 2017 at 04:11 PM Mine was stuck as well this morning. It was only 28. Below freezing. I knew it was gonna happen.
Timewellspent Posted January 5, 2017 at 04:41 PM Report Share Posted January 5, 2017 at 04:41 PM The only time I had an issue with my door being stuck was when the sales rep who didn't know any better kept opening the door by pressing the correct spot, but then was manually rotating the door and pushing it in to close instead of pressing the door open/close button. This was when I was taking delivery. When he closed the door by pushing it in the wrong spot, it was then hard to open and he thought something was wrong. He must have done it three times before I told him how to correctly close the door. it than worked correctly and has ever since. wazer

There is a DOOR OPEN AMD CLOSE button for the PLUG IN DOOR? Edited January 5, 2017 at 09:47 PM by Pg3ibew
Timewellspent Posted January 5, 2017 at 10:19 PM Report Share Posted January 5, 2017 at 10:19 PM (edited) Please explain? There is a DOOR OPEN AMD CLOSE button for the PLUG IN DOOR? The little recessed button on the door that you press to open. You press the same spot to close. If you aren't pressing the same spot to open/close it will get the door out of alignment if that makes sense. So my sales rep was turning the door by hand and then pressing the door back in and where he was pushing on the door was making it want to stick the next time you press that recessed button to open. Are you pressing that same recessed spot on the door to close or are you just rotating it and pushing it in? Vintre Posted January 6, 2017 at 12:18 AM Report Share Posted January 6, 2017 at 12:18 AM Update. Had the port door / charge ring replaced today. Took less than an hour. Works like new! What a difference! As for pushing the door closed from the "button" as shown on the video, I cant belie that this was my problem. I have to believe that the majority of people close the door by rotating it closed by hand and pushing it closed. Good luck to all.
