Neil Posted December 7, 2016 at 07:47 PM Report Share Posted December 7, 2016 at 07:47 PM The dealer says they need to keep my car an extra day because they didn't know the 'A' pillar trim had to be replaced too. You'd think all the parts required to do a customer satisfaction recall would be known. I guess my car is the first one the dealership has done. murphy Posted December 7, 2016 at 08:58 PM Report Share Posted December 7, 2016 at 08:58 PM What? The TCU (Telematics Control Unit) [modem] is no where near either A pillar. It's under the center of the package shelf, behind the rear seats, near the center speaker. It has nothing whatever to do with WiFi. It's a data transceiver that operates on the AT&T cell phone network.

The first time they told me the Specifications and Capacities section of the Owners Manual was a misprint.
murphy Posted December 8, 2016 at 04:12 PM Report Share Posted December 8, 2016 at 04:12 PM There is a WiFi radio integrated with Sync. That is behind the center screen which is half way between the two A pillars. Are you talking to an actual certified mechanic or a service writer that doesn't have a clue how the car is put together? Neil Posted December 12, 2016 at 04:18 PM Author Report Share Posted December 12, 2016 at 04:18 PM Picked up the car from the dealer last Thursday night. The Bill of Materials shows they replaced the trim on the 'C' and 'D' pillars as well as the rear shelf. Looks like a fairly expensive job (if I paid for it). Eric4539 Posted December 13, 2016 at 01:27 AM Report Share Posted December 13, 2016 at 01:27 AM My modem replacement was completed today in probably 2 hours or so. My paperwork does not mention trim replacements at all. I did ask my service advisor if they had all the parts in. His reply was that the technicians order everything that is listed for the modem replacement. If trim has to be replaced they order that too. Who knows what the correct answer is. murphy Posted December 13, 2016 at 10:29 AM Report Share Posted December 13, 2016 at 10:29 AM I suspect the trim only has to be replaced when the tech doesn't know how to disassemble the car and breaks the trim in the process. meyersnole
