caycemd Posted November 26, 2016 at 05:04 PM Report Share Posted November 26, 2016 at 05:04 PM I've seen some similar topics here but wasn't sure how everyone resolved the issue. I go out this morning and my car doesn't respond to either the door handle or the key fob to open. My neighbor recently put up a Christmas lightshow and I'm wondering if that's interfering with the signal? I've heard of those interfering with the signal to your tv so just a thought. Anyway, my question is this, how can I get into my car? I was only going shopping this morning so not a huge deal but come Monday when it's time to go to work, I'm going to need to get in. I read the manual and tried to use the valet key but I don't think I'm doing it right. If it matters, I didn't program a code into the door or if there was one programmed, the dealer didn't tell me what it was. I have a 2016 FFET and have only driven it twice so still getting used to it and getting everything set up. I appreciate any help. If I can get into the car, I plan to move it away from the lightshow to see if that helps.

A slip on cover has to be removed to use the key. That gets the door open and allows the hood to be opened. Next a jumper battery has to be connected to the jumper points under the hood. That will reactivate the car and allow it to start. Once started the jumper battery can be disconnected.

It was the battery. Hard to believe it was dead, I only have 200 miles on the car. At least it was covered under warranty, just cost me an hour waiting for roadside assistance and an hour and half at the dealer!
murphy Posted November 30, 2016 at 10:35 AM Report Share Posted November 30, 2016 at 10:35 AM Was the car bought off of a dealer's lot? They typically let them sit and eventually the battery dies. This wasn't a problem in the distant past since when the car was off there was no drain on the battery. Cars today are loaded with microprocessors that are always on so the constant drain can discharge the battery in a week or two. When a wet cell lead acid battery dies material flakes off of the plates and collects at the bottom of the cells. If the pile of junk gets high enough to short the plates together that cell is destroyed.
bp22911@yahoo.com Posted January 3, 2018 at 03:48 PM Report Share Posted January 3, 2018 at 03:48 PM I had an odd problem this morning trying to access the car. It was 9 degrees overnight so I'm sure the temperature had something to do with it. Here's what happened - I stared the car remotely with the MyFordMobile phone app and ten minutes later when I walked to the car, which was running, the door wouldn't open either by touch or by pressing the unlock button on the fob. I got the other key and had the same problem. Standing next to the car in the 10 degree cold I unlocked the doors with the phone app, got in, and the car did not recognize either key - "No key detected" I placed a key in the slot inside the console and the car started. I swapped the keys and it started again. After a 10 minute drive it all works. What happened?
murphy Posted January 3, 2018 at 07:50 PM Report Share Posted January 3, 2018 at 07:50 PM Did you have the fob and your cellphone in the same pocket?
