Range indicator seems wrong

Hi,All. I have driven my 2017 Fusion Energi for about 700 miles. I put gas in it for the first time and fully charged the battery. The range indicator said 296 miles plus 19 EV miles. Isn't the range on this vehicle supposed to be 610 miles? Is anyone else seeing this kind of low range on their dash display?

Did you fill the tank all the way?  I know stupid question but you gotta ask.

Also, go into the ET screen and check the RAFE value (running average fuel economy).  Should give you an idea of the car's range estimate.

To get there hold down the left OK button and power up the car normally.  Keep holding the OK button for 5+ seconds until you see ET in the left screen.  Once seen you can scroll through these screens to check values.  Hold down OK for a few seconds to exit this menu or power cycle the car.

If the RAFE number is low, then it would account for the 296 mile range.  But it doesn't make sense that it ever could be this low.  If the problem is not going away, disconnecting the 12v battery for a minute an reconnecting it will reset RAFE back to the default value, so your range should go up.

Incidentally, while looking though the ET screens there is a value for fuel level.  Usually around 1000 if the tank is full.  Double check that as maybe the fuel level sensor is faulty.

Thank you for the reply. I had no idea blue screens existed. Very cool. The fuel level is 997. Rafe is 24.7 so that explains the low range. Although, 24.7 times 14 gallons is greater than 296 miles. I wonder why I'm getting such terrible fuel economy. I know the engine is still in its breaking-in period but that seems strangely low. Little more info on my vehicle: last week I went out to my car and found that it was completely dead. After jump starting it and driving for a while, it was fine for 24 hours then died again. I took it to the dealership nearby and they said that the car probably had sat too long at the dealership that I bought it from and the battery had gone bad. They replaced the battery. I was having some engine light issues too but they couldn't read the codes because the dead battery erased the codes. The engine light is now on again.ugh...

On mine if I disconnect the 12v battery and connect it back, RAFE goes back to a default of 41.6 if I recall correctly.  You could try to do that and see if it changes but now if you have a check engine light you may want them to look at it again as disconnecting the battery might lose that code though those sometimes stay in there even with battery disconnect.

Ave fuel economy for cars just purchased is often negatively distorted by all the short test drives and people sitting in a running vehicle with depleted battery (dealers don't keep them charged) and AC on, trying out all the technology features. Once you power cycle your car 3 or more times the CEL should go away if there are no problems, otherwise it's back to the dealer.

Thanks for all the insights folks. After driving for about a week, it Sega that the range indicator does bit decrease proportionally to the number of actual miles driven. So the range is in fact longer than the 296 originally shown. I also noticed that the range indicator value increased by about 20 miles the other day. I'm going to continue driving and observing the range for another week. I'll post my observations. Thanks again!

I'm having a similar issue, again, which was corrected at the dealer the first time after a warranty repair. My repair issue was with the automatic windows malfunctioning and ford "hot lined" a patch to correct the system program error. This patch, which I assume contains a full and correct program update took care of the windows as well as correcting displayed range from 484 to 610. This also brought my actual driven range from 480 to 668! I was experiencing about 32mpg however and am once again, so I'll be posting my story tonight as the dealer now claims to be clueless.

I will add...if you're having to work hard to get 40+ mpg, and I assume you are, there is a definite issue. The ford energi with decent driving patterns according to the driving coach should get 580-630 on fuel alone without a single charge.(period)

With everything functioning as it should be that has been my experience and with charging I push 648-672 on one full tank after 1-2 charges home/work.

With current and obvious issues apparent to me I'm getting 460-480 with no change in driving style!

What did you do to extend the range? What was the fix?

What was the system program error? What did you ask the dealer to fix the problem?
