Platinum15Ti Posted February 26, 2016 at 01:09 PM Report Share Posted February 26, 2016 at 01:09 PM Thinking about buying my car at the end of the lease, but slightly curious about battery life and higher mileage. I realize the Gen 2 Fusions have only been out for 3 years... Who has the most miles and what issues (if any) have you had? Has the battery life deteriorated? Has anyone had to replace batteries? murphy Posted February 26, 2016 at 02:16 PM Report Share Posted February 26, 2016 at 02:16 PM The battery is warranted for 8 years or 100,000 miles whichever comes first. I think it is even higher in California.
openair Posted February 26, 2016 at 03:15 PM Report Share Posted February 26, 2016 at 03:15 PM (edited) The battery is warranted for 8 years or 100,000 miles whichever comes first. I think it is even higher in California.Sure, but the warranty only covers that the battery functions. The warranty allows for degradation. There are people who only get 4.5kWh (in the summer) from their battery after less than two years and 60000 miles and ford does nothing. The warranty is irrelevant when discussing battery life. Fat Fusion Posted February 27, 2016 at 03:49 PM Report Share Posted February 27, 2016 at 03:49 PM I only have 45k on mine but the only current issue is I sometimes get the P2183 code. I just haven't bothered to bring it in for the TSB. The only change in battery life I've noticed is seasonal.
meyersnole Posted March 1, 2016 at 10:33 PM Report Share Posted March 1, 2016 at 10:33 PM Just turned 36K on my 2013. If there are changes in the range they are minimal. I have had a few of the TSBs applied, but for the most part no big issues. I did purchase the extended warranty to 100K miles as this car is pretty complex and any repair could be quite costly. gtca Posted June 11, 2016 at 11:40 PM Report Share Posted June 11, 2016 at 11:40 PM I have 25,000 miles and just purchased Ford's 60 month 125,000 mile warranty for $2,050. I am worried about battery degradation though which is not covered.
Hybridbear Posted June 13, 2016 at 07:05 PM Report Share Posted June 13, 2016 at 07:05 PM My parents' 2013 C-Max Energi is now 3 years old and has about 18,000 EV miles out of about 20,000 odometer miles. They are down about 0.5 kWh based on my limited testing. This is about 2-3 miles of EV range. Check out larryh's posts here for a highly scientific analysis of this. baker9860 Posted January 12, 2019 at 05:23 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2019 at 05:23 PM I have a 2013 energi with 180,000 miles. Still runs great. Timewellspent, kylem, jj2me and 1 other 1
jsamp Posted February 17, 2019 at 11:18 PM Report Share Posted February 17, 2019 at 11:18 PM I have a 2013 energi with 180,000 miles. Still runs great. I'd love to hear how your battery is doing. How many kWh do you get from 100% charge to hybrid mode?
kzoojason76 Posted February 26, 2019 at 05:40 PM Report Share Posted February 26, 2019 at 05:40 PM I have a 2013 energi with 180,000 miles. Still runs great. And I thought I was high miles at 120K. Great job!! I love my '13 Energi Titanium. kylem
zippoking Posted February 28, 2019 at 05:14 PM Report Share Posted February 28, 2019 at 05:14 PM I'd also like to hear more about anyone over 100k miles. I have a '14 at 56k miles and plan to hopefully go to at least 150k. Was thinking I'd do a trans fluid change somewhat soon at a dealer while still under warranty, just in case... Frugal Posted February 18, 2020 at 06:35 PM Report Share Posted February 18, 2020 at 06:35 PM I have a 2017 with 125k on it, my winter range is down to 8-9 miles a charge and my summer range is around 12-13 miles just to note even when it was new i was only getting 16 miles on my normal commute 73mph for 32 miles each way flat freeway
ptjones Posted February 18, 2020 at 08:11 PM Report Share Posted February 18, 2020 at 08:11 PM Driving 73 mph is a real killer for EV range, driving 65 mph would have increased range by 2+ miles anyways. IMO. Paul jsamp and Frugal
jj2me Posted February 19, 2020 at 04:23 AM Report Share Posted February 19, 2020 at 04:23 AM Not only a range killer, but it's also not good for the battery, because you're running at about a 2.5C discharge rate. jsamp and ptjones
FF2013 Posted March 22, 2021 at 05:27 PM Report Share Posted March 22, 2021 at 05:27 PM My 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid is at 218,000 miles. No change in the battery since buying it off lease at 30,000. Mostly just tires and on time synthetic oil changes. Brakes as good as when I bought it - has never needed a brake job. Runs and performs as new, still looks a picture. Love this car! jj2me
ederhale Posted August 11, 2022 at 06:26 PM Report Share Posted August 11, 2022 at 06:26 PM (edited) Hi there I'm considering purchasing my parent's 2014 Fusion Energi. It has 100,000 miles and is well kept. They did a brake replacement but otherwise have had no other large repairs or accidents. They aren't sure how long the electric battery would last. How much would a battery replacement be if needed? Could you drive it without the replacement just using it as a regular car using gasoline? If the battery is still operable, can you still drive it on gas only? We would rely on public charging stations as we live in a city so don't have a garage at this point. jsamp Posted August 12, 2022 at 05:57 AM Report Share Posted August 12, 2022 at 05:57 AM (edited) It's anybody's guess as to how long the battery will last. Batteries have lifetime limits in both charging cycles and calendar days. However it is not an exact science as to 'your battery will die at precisely xxx days or yyy miles or zzz charges' My 2015 is well cared for and has 97k miles. I can get up to 30 miles per charge around town, closer to 20 on the highway. Some owners like above have over 200k miles on them and are still going. As long as the battery doesn't completely die, you can always just drive it on gas as a hybrid. I'm not 100% sure, but suspect if the battery truly dies you will not have an ICE car, you will have no car at all. Replacement batteries for the Energi are around $7k plus installation last I checked, so they are not cheap. theterminator93 Posted August 12, 2022 at 12:53 PM Report Share Posted August 12, 2022 at 12:53 PM While the car would still work as a regular hybrid with a severely deteriorated battery, It's probably detrimental to the wallet at that point since many states (e.g. here in OH) impose additional taxes on PHEVs/BEVs which makes it more expensive to own than a HEV. As long as the miles afforded by the added EV range of the PHEV save me enough on gas to recoup that added cost, it's worth keeping around. As far as battery replacement, I actually found these guys a week or so ago - under $4k. Hmm... https://www.besthybridbatteries.com/products/ford-fusion-energi-2013-2018-plugin-hybrid-battery
