TA2D Posted January 30, 2016 at 06:22 PM Report Share Posted January 30, 2016 at 06:22 PM Over the last month I've notice after plugging the car in all night I'd get some odd readings on the dash. It would indicate 95% but then default to AUTO mode and X out the EV and EV Later. However the battery would show a full blue as if it were full. Other times I'd be able to change to the other modes but it would switch to AUTO the first time I stop the car and do the previous issue. The car will run and drain the EV but wont let me change modes. The other issue I've noticed is the braking. I'll brake and occasionally the brakes will seem to give out in which the natural response is to brake harder and then it re-engages. It seems to do it more often on right hand turns. I know it will do it when I hit bumps, but lately it's been random. The road can be smooth and it will do it. The only factors that have changed are the winter temps and that I have swapped to steel rims with winter tires. I have an appointment to take the car in this week, however the diagnostic reports shows nothing wrong. I'm not sure if it's a software issue or what, but it's becoming an issue that is deterring me from enjoying this car.
openair Posted January 30, 2016 at 08:01 PM Report Share Posted January 30, 2016 at 08:01 PM (edited) What ambient temps? It is considered normal for Ev now and later to be locked out at temps below -20C(-4F) and you'll have a hard time getting a real answer from Ford on this issue. If it is happening in much warmer weather, than have them check your electric heater. The braking issue is also something Ford will likely refuse to do anything about. Hybridbear had a engineer from Ford Corp ride with him related to this issue and the engineer said it was simply occurring near an abs evident and nothing was done. Another cmax owner eventually traded his in after nothing was done about this issue. Thread in the fusion hybrid sister forum discussion this brake issue (note that some feel it is normal abs behaviour and some feel it is not): http://fordfusionhybridforum.com/topic/9866-regen-braking-issue-when-turning/page-9?do=findComment&comment=101670 Edited January 30, 2016 at 11:53 PM by openair bdginmo and Hybridbear
bdginmo Posted January 31, 2016 at 02:15 PM Report Share Posted January 31, 2016 at 02:15 PM (edited) First, when 95% is displayed after switching to EV Later that means 95% will be preserved. It is NOT the SoC remaining. You need to press the leaf button on the center display and go to the settiings tab to see the SoC. Second, for me when EV Now and EV Later get locked out it seems to be correlated with my heater not working. When I check the trouble codes I get one related to the engine coolant heater like openair said. I have recently cleared my DTCs and I'm waiting to see if the problem happens again before definitively saying whenever or not the two are related in my specific case. This particular DTC does not trigger the check engine light and I'm not sure it would show up in the diagnostic report from the car. You may need an OBD II adapter and the ForScan app to see it. Once I see the DTC pop up again I'll leave it and take it to the dealer and have them investigate. And let us know what the outside temperature was when the problem happened. Edited January 31, 2016 at 02:16 PM by bdginmo
