Fusion Energi

I'd be surprised if you could do better than true-car / USAA / etc on a new gen car.

I will try USAA also. I used them to get my best price last time, so I know that works. So far, I don't see Fusion Energi at USAA. Do you know if they can quote a price before the dealer has published the invoice numbers?

I've never used X-Plan. I learned about it from the Blue Oval forum.

If Ford would just hurry up and publish the info / update the web sites, I could compare the X-Plan price and the USAA price and get on with ordering.

I have, but they know very little. My salesman sent me an back-channel email, but even that didn't have much on it.

If any of you would like to explore placing a order for an Energi right away, click on my name, Pluggedin, and send me a private email requesting my salesmans name and phone number. My email address in on my profile page.

I spoke with my salesman and he gave me permission to disclose his name and phone number, but only through a private email...not the internet. If you ask me for his number, and I give it to you, you must honor his request not to disclose his information on the internet.

If you do contact my salesman, you must be aware that there is currently no special pricing, like the X-plan or USAA, available through him...that I am aware of. But it never hurts to ask.

My salesman is in the Tucson area, so I am guessing you would have to pick the car up in Tucson. So factor in those costs when you are trying to decide whether to place an order with him or not.

There is only value in this offer if you simply cannot find a dealer near you who is willing to place an order for you, for an Energi, at this time.

That's very thoughtful of you, pluggedin! May I ask if you got a discount or paid full MSRP?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, rprobst. I didn't see your post yesterday.

My dealer has a paint and protection package and a tint package that is added to MSRP and adds up to $1,394. My salesman talked to his manager and came back to tell me they had decided to add $2,000 to the MSRP of the new Fusion Energi, so the price to me was $48,544.

But, the salesman said, since mine was the first such car ordered by the dealer and the car would be visible in the community while helping the allocation numbers, they waved the $2,000 and the price started at $46544.

It took some back and forth but we negotiated on the price of the protection packages and I ended up paying about $500 under MSRP + the full price of the protection packages, for a price that is right around $46,000, plus tt&l.

These cars are brand new so the dealers will, and are, very proud of them. Each deal stands on its own but I think you will find the dealers are going to start with MSRP + a premium. The stance I took was that my car would the first Titanium Energi in the community, would be visible in the community, would be good advertisement for them and it would help increase their allocation numbers for their dealership. That seemed to make a little difference.

Good luck in your negotiations, I hope you hit a home run.

ChuckJ, above is a quote from one of my earlier comments that shows a breakdown of how my negotiations went for the Energi I ordered. My MSRP was $45,150 and the price I will pay is $46,000, as I noted above, which inludes $1,394 for an exterior protection package and a tint package that my dealer puts on every car they sell.

We negotiated on the $1,394, not the MSRP, and settled on a price of $850 for the two packages. MSRP plus $850=$46,000. That is one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is I paid full price for the two packages and about $544 less than MSRP, even though we never talked about reducing MSRP. Either way the car is going to cost me $46,000 for the Titanium Energi Hybrid Plug-In I ordered.

Having said all of that, you may be a better negotiator than I am and each deal stands on its own, so you may do better than I did. I did not shop my guy because the dealership is close to me and I want to have a good relationship with them but my saleman knows that if I find he has taken advantage of me that relationship will become strained, to put it mildly. I mean, by the time my car gets here there will be plenty of you on this site posting your prices as well so we will renegotiate my deal if I find they have not been fair with me. My deposit is refundable.

Please send me an email, if you want to talk to my salesman.

From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermosillo_Stamping_%26_Assembly):

For the production of the Ford CD3 platform, Ford updated the plant for increased efficiency and flexibility US $1 billion investment included construction of a 1,750,000 square feet (163,000 m2) supplier park near the site. The improvements facilitated quick production shifts between models. Capacity of the plant was improved to 300,000 units per year. The plant was top rated in the category of "Compact Premium Conventional" in terms of productivity, taking an average of 20.78 hours to assemble a vehicle.

So you have to figure they CAN crank out 800 a day if 24/7, but likely not all Energi's since they cannot get ahold of all the required compents in those numbers. I'm guessing they also want to create a demand shortage so as not to over produce (RE: Leaf).

Good comments jsamp.

I think I read somewhere (I've read so much that it runs together sometimes) that it takes about two days to manufacture a car, maybe a little more. Like you, I hope that Ford has the consumer's intersest at heart and take their time getting this car right. By extension, it will benefit them as well.

I expect they will integrate the Energi assembly in with the existing Fusion line, as with the Focus/Focus Electric/CMax.

Since the CMAX and the Fusion Energi will share the same drivetrain, I drove the CMAX Energi yesterday(1.12.13) at Airport Marina Ford in L.A.  (They have two of them unsold, in case anyone is looking in the L.A. area.)     It is a very quiet, pleasing car to drive.  Now if I can just get past the idea of a smaller trunk in the Fusion Energi, and whether it has the pass-thru seats.  But I'm looking forward to it.

Unless you're looking to haul skis, you're going to be out of luck. It is a pass-through, but a very small space.

The dealer did let me see if I could fit my 9' surfboard into a FFH.

It fits, but it's tight.

So with the NRG I'll be looking to find a roof surfboard rack and a tow hitch for the bike rack, most definitely.
