voken Posted January 8, 2016 at 09:17 PM Report Share Posted January 8, 2016 at 09:17 PM Hi, has anyone leased/ purchased Ford Fusion Energi recently ? Ford site quotes RCL Customer Cash Incentive (#50348) for $8,757 and when I spoke to a Ford dealer in Westchester, NY area he says the incentive is only towards a lease and NOT for a purchase/finance. For purchase you are only entitled to $450 incentive (Ford credit retail bonus) and another $4007 as tax credit. Is this true ? Our current lease 2015 VW got totaled and I ended up losing the upfront costs that I had paid. Lesson learnt, so I am going with $0 down this time. The lease quote I got from the dealer: Retail price: 35,570Sale price: 34,395Govt fees: 358.50Cap Taxes: 1,527.79Acq fee: 645Accessories: 150------------------------------Gross Cap cost: $36,753.79Rebate: $8,757Cash down: $0-------------------------------Net Cap Cost: $27,996.79------------------------------- Lease term: 24 months, 10,500 miles, Residual 55% - Payment: $399 /month Is this good price ? If I can get this $8,757 rebate along w/ Tax credit, I prefer financing this rather than leasing. Thanks,
murphy Posted January 8, 2016 at 09:56 PM Report Share Posted January 8, 2016 at 09:56 PM You don't get the tax credit when you lease. The leasing company gets the tax credit but most will pass it through as part of the lease calculations. jeff_h and Hybridbear

Have you looked at leasing something else like the new Volt or a Focus Electric? We pay $261 per month for our Focus Electric lease. $400 a month is ridiculous! You can lease a BMW i3 for around that price!
Russael Posted January 11, 2016 at 08:22 PM Report Share Posted January 11, 2016 at 08:22 PM I don't think it's that bad, especially since he's not putting a dime down. That's what really jacked up his monthly payment. Fiddling with finances on Ford.com puts the car at 357/mo with nothing down, and that isn't counting all the other dealer stuff or sales tax. voken Posted January 13, 2016 at 03:55 PM Author Report Share Posted January 13, 2016 at 03:55 PM Thanks for the quick responses. Still I can't understand why they have more incentives applied on a lease ($8757) vs. finance ($450 + $4007 tax credit= total $4507). If they can get you $8757 incentive with finance, then I think it makes more sense to buy than lease the car. I am still working on with the numbers w/ the Ford SA. Russael Posted January 13, 2016 at 04:03 PM Report Share Posted January 13, 2016 at 04:03 PM (edited) I'm seeing 6257 discount on a lease... not 8757, unless your dealership is tacking on additional incentives. They want you to come back. :) After all, they'll see you again in 2 years with a lease. :D And if you wanted a big incentive with Financing, they'd only be able to give you 4750 up front, and the rest you would have to claim as a tax credit. NOTE ON TAX CREDITS - they're based on your tax liability - how much you pay the federal government at tax time. This is NOT A TAX REBATE where you get the money back regardless. If you look at your 2015 taxes (or your 2016 ones which will be coming in shortly), you'll need to see what your tax liability was. If it is greater than 4007, you'll get 4007 back. If it is LESS, then you'll only get back what you owed in tax (IE - if you only paid 3500 in tax for 2016, you'd only get back 3500). This has burned several members already. voken Posted January 13, 2016 at 04:29 PM Author Report Share Posted January 13, 2016 at 04:29 PM Yes, with the lease they always want us back at their doorstep ;) where did you see this 6257 ? I just went to the ford.com and by choosing the build option for Energi SE, I see this: MSRP: 33,900 Destination: 875Total 34,775Incentives: 8757=Net Price: 26,018. And this 8757 is what my dealer said I could get on a lease and NOT on a finance. For finance its just 450 + whatever the tax credit we get year end -4007 or less as you mentioned above. voken Posted January 13, 2016 at 04:34 PM Author Report Share Posted January 13, 2016 at 04:34 PM Could be a state thing also. May be NY has more incentives applied compared to Michigan ?? Also looking at the Finance calculator on ford.com for 24 month lease it comes to $330/month
Russael Posted January 13, 2016 at 04:44 PM Report Share Posted January 13, 2016 at 04:44 PM It's likely the latter then... Ford.com does ask for a zipcode, so it's probably a different regional incentive. I only see 6257 with a lease option. If you wait a few months, the incentives may get better as the 2017's start rolling in to showrooms. Redesigns usually result in even better deals on older models if you want to wait. If your tax liability is less than $4007, then your tax liability goes to $0. If it's greater than $4007, then it is reduced by $4007. You can then compare your tax liability to your taxes paid to calculate your rebate. We chose to greatly reduce our withholding the year we bought our car. Thus, we only got a refund of about $2000. Our tax liability was reduced by $4007 due to the credit and that made our tax liability about $2000 less than we had paid over the course of the year. You get it back - tax was paid throughout the year and it is issued to you as a refund which reduces your liability, so what I indicated is correct. It is not a tax rebate where you get it back regardless if your liability was greater than 4007 or not. The only time you wouldn't get it back as a refund is if you didn't pay tax throughout the year and when it comes to tax time, then it will reduce how much you owe, but I don't know anybody who does this. They're both retired so their income comes from Social Security & 401k/pension plans. They chose to only have state income tax withheld in 2013, from March (when they ordered their Energi) through the end of the year. Thus they had $0 federal income tax taken out of their income from the day they ordered their Energi forward. They structured the amount of their income to very nearly match $4007 Energi credit + $1000 from the EVSE credit in terms of tax liability. They ended up having less than $10 in tax liability for 2013. They didn't give an interest-free loan to the government by having taxes withheld any more than they had to, just to get them back. They were refunded all but about $10 of the taxes they had had withheld from their first few months of Social Security payments. The rest of the money stayed as additional monthly income.
