Neil Posted January 4, 2016 at 03:15 PM Report Share Posted January 4, 2016 at 03:15 PM (edited) Ford announced at the Consumer Electronics Show that the 2017 model year of the SYNC 3 will include Android Auto and Apple Carplay. That functionality enables you to run some applications on your phone using the in-dash touch screen. An example would be running Google Maps rather than the navigation feature built into the head unit (with static maps that quickly become out of date). The article I read (http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/news/a27784/all-2017-model-year-fords-will-have/) said cars from the 2016 model year are upgradeable to the new features. This is a really cool feature - I wish I could upgrade my 2013 Energi. Edited January 4, 2016 at 03:16 PM by Neil

Guido79 Posted January 11, 2016 at 01:49 AM Report Share Posted January 11, 2016 at 01:49 AM Doh! I guess my 2015 is going to be stuck with the Microsoft Sync garbage. flyingcheesehead
storksb Posted January 17, 2016 at 04:48 PM Report Share Posted January 17, 2016 at 04:48 PM I wouldn't say that Sync and MFT are garbage, they are just not as advanced and mature as many consumers expect these days considering the technology we carry around for our phones. People need to remember that these systems in cars take many years to develop and evolve. If you want a car that supports these new apps as soon as they come out buy a new model every year. MFT works fine for me and I'm perfectly happy with it. Hybridbear and jeff_h
Michelle Posted January 27, 2016 at 03:48 AM Report Share Posted January 27, 2016 at 03:48 AM Unfortunately, the 2016 Fusion has the 2nd generation SYNC, and not SYNC 3, so it can't be upgraded to CarPlay.

chancelperry Posted May 29, 2016 at 10:23 PM Report Share Posted May 29, 2016 at 10:23 PM For those interested, there has been success with changing out the headunits for the Sync 3 unit.
