Lately, the house plug in heats up when I try to charge and the red outlet sign on the charger blinks. Is it a problem with the outlet? I have tried 2 different house outlets with the same results. murphy Posted January 2, 2016 at 12:23 AM Report Share Posted January 2, 2016 at 12:23 AM Have an electrician check the outlet wiring. Many 15 amp outlets are wired using the wire push-in terminals. That is fine if it only has to serve a table lamp. The charger draws a continuous 12 amps and the wires need to be clamped under the screw heads. I had an electrician come out and put a brand new 20a circuit in and it still overheats. Worked fine from when I got the car in August 2015 till about 2 weeks ago. Any fixes?
