decker12 Posted November 9, 2015 at 10:10 PM Report Share Posted November 9, 2015 at 10:10 PM Can anyone recommend a weatherpoof enclosure for the 120v charger? I use it frequently to charge my Energi, but due to the layout of my home and driveway, I can't really wind it back up for storage after every use. I'd like to get some sort of weatherproof enclosure to put it in, instead of just leaving it out in the rain and mud. However nothing I've found is big enough as the charger is about 15" long. I was looking at a product like this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006EUHSNC/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=QEXR7MEZJV9L&coliid=I3PWMEBWJNNTDW&psc=1 But it's just too small to fit the charger. Can anyone offer up an alterative? Thanks in advance!
murphy Posted November 9, 2015 at 10:13 PM Report Share Posted November 9, 2015 at 10:13 PM How about a battery box. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_xo_0_11?url=search-alias%3Dautomotive&field-keywords=battery+box&sprefix=battery+box%2Ctools%2C136
decker12 Posted November 9, 2015 at 11:00 PM Author Report Share Posted November 9, 2015 at 11:00 PM Awesome idea, I didn't think of those. Unfortunately even the largest one isn't long enough to fit the 15" charger. Shame because the majority of the charging unit is extra plastic to spool the cable around, but since I'm leasing my Energi so I don't want to take a hacksaw to the plastic to cut it down to size. Thanks in advance! You know, before I started leaving my L1 inside the garage and running the cord out the front under the door, I actually just kept mine in a small kitchen garbage bag, with the cord connection to the extension cord wrapped such that rain would not flow into it. Not the best looking, but I had no trouble with it. The L1 charger is weatherproof anyway.
Hybridbear Posted November 10, 2015 at 02:38 PM Report Share Posted November 10, 2015 at 02:38 PM You can remove the plastic ring if you aren't winding the cord up after each use. That will save some space. The plastic ring is designed to slide on & off. Shame because the majority of the charging unit is extra plastic to spool the cable around, but since I'm leasing my Energi so I don't want to take a hacksaw to the plastic to cut it down to size. lonzo71
decker12 Posted November 10, 2015 at 04:49 PM Author Report Share Posted November 10, 2015 at 04:49 PM I had no idea that the ring was removable! I'll go check that out and probably end up using the battery box. Thanks everyone - great tips!
decker12 Posted November 23, 2015 at 06:31 PM Author Report Share Posted November 23, 2015 at 06:31 PM Marine Battery box worked great as soon as I removed the ring fro around the charger. An easy fix for $8 from amazon! Thanks again. Hybridbear and jeff_h
