gladeplugin Posted September 11, 2015 at 02:22 PM Report Share Posted September 11, 2015 at 02:22 PM So I put MFT in AV input mode, then when I changed my charge value settings I could hear the typical GSM phone modulation buzz pop interference in the background over the speakers. I put my iPhone in flight mode, still got the noise. Turned off MFT wifi, still got the noise. I don't have a USB WWAN modem in the center console. What is transmitting GSM like signals from my car? It consistently buzzes like a GSM near computer speakers every time I change value settings. Weird.
murphy Posted September 11, 2015 at 04:44 PM Report Share Posted September 11, 2015 at 04:44 PM The Energi has a data modem that communicates with Ford over the AT&T cell network. It's what allows My Ford Mobile to work. gladeplugin
gladeplugin Posted September 11, 2015 at 08:21 PM Author Report Share Posted September 11, 2015 at 08:21 PM So is this service cost covered by Ford? Is it a perpetual subscription? What network/carrier does it use? MFT wouldn't send a vehicle health report out until I BT'ed my iPhone with it, even when it was on WiFi. I bought a used car and it "just works". I also see that Sirius Travel Link only has audio subscribed. Is this a freebee for a while?
murphy Posted September 11, 2015 at 08:48 PM Report Share Posted September 11, 2015 at 08:48 PM So far it is included in the purchase price of the car. If / when it runs out I'm sure they will let us know,As I said AT&T.VHR does not use the data modem, it uses your cell phone. The last Sirius free period ended on September 8. My car came with a 6 month Sirius subscription. It no longer works.

Sorry, can't remember where I read that.

Sorry, can't remember where I read that. If you set up your Sirius account and have the car's ESN loaded, the subscription for Travelink should have for 5 years from the activation (delivery) date -- at least that's the case with the 2013 models, don't know if the later models are any different. lonzo71
Hybridbear Posted September 12, 2015 at 10:36 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2015 at 10:36 PM MFM uses a 2G AT&T modem. It is located under the rear package shelf. chasm31110

I was speaking of the AT&T connection, and the "My Services" stuff. I believe that is 5 years also, but don't recall where I read that. murphy Posted September 14, 2015 at 06:14 PM Report Share Posted September 14, 2015 at 06:14 PM Services does not go through the AT&T connection. It uses your cellphone. It was three years on my 2010 Hybrid and it's three years on my 2013 Energi. After it expires it costs $60.00 per year. My Ford Mobile uses the AT&T connection which is good for five years. The duration is given in the online Help for MFM. It also states that the ongoing cost after five years has not been determined. As for services, I see from the online site that it is indeed 3 years, not five. I'm not sure I will be renewing that one. Good clarification, I knew it went through my cellphone, but it got tangled in with discussion of lengths. EDIT: The only thing I use services for is to enter destinations into my phone and transfer them to the car. gladeplugin Posted October 13, 2015 at 04:34 PM Author Report Share Posted October 13, 2015 at 04:34 PM I would like to be able to disconnect the cellular modem. I didn't see a fuse dedicated to it. I'll go look at the rear package shelf. Has anyone disconnected this before?

They use the modem to report the car location. But I believe the location feature can be turned off somewhere in the MFT.
