lonzo71 Posted July 31, 2015 at 01:18 PM Report Share Posted July 31, 2015 at 01:18 PM Once again, I was messing with the car when I came across greyed out functions of the controls. One of them is Quiet Start..some of the others is Front/Read Defrost, driver/passdenger seat. Why are these greyed out? Was this suppose to be a feature under MFM? Or a feature of the remote? Has anybody got them to work? Please feel free to move this to where it should be...Since now, I'm not sure if it should be here or not... Timewellspent Posted July 31, 2015 at 05:27 PM Report Share Posted July 31, 2015 at 05:27 PM Works on mine. Do you have remote start enabled?

Timewellspent Posted July 31, 2015 at 07:32 PM Report Share Posted July 31, 2015 at 07:32 PM What does this feature even do?It gives you options for when you remote start the car - Turn on seat heat/cool, front/rear defrost. etc.
Blastphemy Posted August 1, 2015 at 01:26 AM Report Share Posted August 1, 2015 at 01:26 AM If I turn on the A/C remotely, it sure isn't a "Quiet Start"... that compressor makes quite a racket!
Hybridbear Posted August 2, 2015 at 04:30 AM Report Share Posted August 2, 2015 at 04:30 AM (edited) Have you had your FCIM updated? Quiet Start doesn't have anything to do with AC, it is a horn honk to let you know the car started or not (i believe).

It's now grayed out. The heated seats work, ever so slightly, but no heat/defrost.
Russael Posted March 29, 2016 at 10:53 AM Report Share Posted March 29, 2016 at 10:53 AM Any idea how mine would lose the remote heat/defrost ability without a trip to the dealer? It's now grayed out. The heated seats work, ever so slightly, but no heat/defrost. Had the same thing happen a couple months ago. The FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) will likely need to be replaced. They tried all kinds of testing, software updates, etc and concluded that it needed replacement. They replaced it, things work fine now.
Fat Fusion Posted March 29, 2016 at 01:56 PM Report Share Posted March 29, 2016 at 01:56 PM Thanks Russael. Anyone know the PN for a 2014? Is it plug-n-play, or will I need to get the dealer to flash anything?
Russael Posted March 29, 2016 at 04:09 PM Report Share Posted March 29, 2016 at 04:09 PM You may be able to find the part number on fordparts.com. As far as it being plug 'n play... I don't know for sure, but most modules like that need to be programmed to the car. When I fiddled with the IDS system, it had a mode where you'd select a part to be replaced, put it in replace mode, swap the part, and then put it in service. Timewellspent Posted March 29, 2016 at 05:02 PM Report Share Posted March 29, 2016 at 05:02 PM When mine all got greyed out, they applied TSB 14-096 and that fixed it for me, didn't have to replace FCIM

Never had to get one done outside of warranty. Nope. Not unless you know someone who has a Rotunda VCM II programmer with a Ford IDS license who's willing to do it for you for free (I did this kind of work to my girlfriend's focus - I applied 3 software updates using a local mechanic's system for free because I had done him some computer favors in the past). Once the warranty is up, it's all on you in 99% of cases that I know about, especially at a stealership.

It's very worthwhile in the N CA summer heat to have the AC running for any amount of time before you get to the car. Being gray doesn't help. lonzo71 Posted July 14, 2016 at 12:11 PM Author Report Share Posted July 14, 2016 at 12:11 PM So finally took it in for them to look at it. Sadly, the ford site was down for them so they really didnt know what to do other than "look" at it. They are guessing that its greyed out because the remote start/car doesnt support it because its not the right "version"...They suggested to make an appointment during the week.... I'm at the point to say screw it and not do anything about it. Hope to sell the car in 2-3 more years....
lonzo71 Posted September 15, 2016 at 02:49 PM Author Report Share Posted September 15, 2016 at 02:49 PM So, this past Tuesday, I decided to try again with the remote start options in the dash. I used my dealership website, booked the appointment and showed up and told the guy what's wrong with it and all. Come to find out, they wanted both set of keys, so had to go back and get them. Anyways, around 3pm or so, got the phone call for me to pick it up. Sadly, the guy I talked to wasn't there when I picked up but was told everything is good, the remote start works now.. Sadly, On my way home, I found out that nothing changed, they didn't fix the issue. That night I emailed the dealership and was again, told that it works...so I emailed him back and said, to make sure we are on the same sheet, the remote starter always worked, its the remote starter options in the dash that isn't working... I haven't heard back after that...

lonzo71 Posted September 30, 2016 at 05:10 PM Author Report Share Posted September 30, 2016 at 05:10 PM is there anybody really on the forums anymore?....guess not.. Finally, after going in yesterday and showing them the problem, all they had to do was update the front dash module...of course, costing me 87 bucks! you would think, that something like this SHOULD be FREE! or at least under warranty... Just a few more years and I'll be DONE with this car and this company! If you are reading this, I'm sure, one day, you'll be GLAD to get rid of yours too... As this will be my last post....I'll try and not let the door hit me as I go. good luck with your car...you'll need it Blastphemy
