I work 20 mikes from work and there is a charger there. I haven't had the garage wired for 220 yet, but a friend of mine is an electrician and will do it for free if I decide to. This is true, but..it is worth getting a EVSE...esp since you can get the wiring done for FREE. Some states gives you rebates for buying and installing one. IRS used to, not sure if they still do..but the price of them are coming down and there are pleanty of suggestions on which one..I would suggest looking at https://www.chargepoint.com/ They just came out with one that has a lot of nice features..I have the GE one and its nice and got it for free and got my install cost paid back to me..so it all ended up being free. Lastly, An EVSE charges faster and more eff than the car charger that came with the car. Welcome and there are pleanty of stuff on here to read with a bunch of nice folks to help you out. Just ask! Without knowing where you are located in Arizona, the heat does have a negative effect on the battery range and lifespan. Make sure to try and use the feature of cooling the car off before you get in while still plugged in. The cooling and heating can consume a huge amount of energy so let your wall socket provide it. As you may know, the batteries rely upon your heating or cooling of the cabin to help cool them. I used to live in Phoenix and know how hot it can get in Arizona. I was recently in Las Vegas where the temps were quite warm while in my C-max Energi and my range took a significant hit based on the heat. As other mentioned, you likely could get by with the stock setup pulling from 110v. The vast majority of my charges are from 110. While a 220v EVSE is more efficient, it isn’t a huge amount. From what I’ve read maybe 4-5%. If you can’t get any rebates or credits, it might not be worth it on purely a cost basis. If I were stopping by home for an hour or so and then leaving again, then I might appreciate the faster recharge times of the 220. Since my car normally sits at work or a hotel for quite a few hours, it isn’t an issue. Regardless of how long it takes to charge, plan your charge so it is topped off just before you plan to leave. Keeping your battery at 100% for an extended period of time is not healthy for it. So setup your go times to maybe be about 15-30 minutes before your leave. Or if you leave every day at the same exact time, then plan the charge to finish just as you go to the car. Of course factor in some time to pre-condition the car and drop the temps inside as previously mentioned. Enjoy your new car. There is a lot to learn but with the knowledge you learn, you’ll be more likely to enjoy it and get the efficiency you think it should have. I think maybe that was referencing the cost of installing the wiring being free, rather than the cost of the charger itself? I had an electrician do the wiring on mine, which would have been $250 but my existing breaker panel didn't have room so they had to install a sub-panel for an extra $500. So $750 turned out to be more than I wanted to pay (but far better than me trying it), so having an electrician friend that would do it for free is a big help.
