lonzo71 Posted June 16, 2015 at 01:05 PM Report Share Posted June 16, 2015 at 01:05 PM NHTSA Recall Number: AWAITING# Ford Recall Number: 15S14 Recall Description: VEHICLES THAT ARE OPERATED IN HIGH-CORROSION ENVIRONMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH EXPOSURE TO ROAD SALT MAY EXPERIENCE CORROSION OF THE STEERING GEAR MOTOR ATTACHMENT BOLTS. THIS MAY RESULT IN THE STEERING GEAR MOTOR BECOMING LOOSE OR DETACHING FROM THE GEAR HOUSING, ALTHOUGH THE STEERING GEAR MOTOR WILL NOT SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE. FORD IS NOT AWARE OF ANY REPORTS OF ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES RELATED TO THIS CONDITION. Risk to Safety: STEERING GEAR MOTOR DETACHMENT FROM THE GEAR HOUSING WOULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST, BUT WOULD NOT RESULT IN STEERING LOSS OR SEPARATION OF THE MOTOR FROM THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANICAL LINKAGE BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE ROAD IS MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES. THE STEERING SYSTEM WILL DEFAULT TO MANUAL STEERING MODE, ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO BE STEERED IN A SAFE AND CONTROLLED MANNER. THE AMOUNT OF ASSIST SUPPLIED IS INVERSELY PROPORTIONAL TO VEHICLE SPEED, WITH THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF ASSIST PROVIDED AT LOWER VEHICLE SPEEDS. LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST WOULD REQUIRE HIGHER STEERING EFFORT, ESPECIALLY AT LOWER SPEEDS, WHICH MAY RESULT IN AN INCREASED RISK OF A CRASH. Remedy Program: OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY MAIL AND INSTRUCTED TO TAKE THEIR VEHICLE TO A FORD OR LINCOLN DEALER TO HAVE SEALER APPLIED AND THE STEERING GEAR MOTOR ATTACHMENT BOLTS REPLACED AS REQUIRED. IF ONE OR MORE OF THE STEERING GEAR MOTOR ATTACHMENT BOLTS ARE BROKEN OR MISSING, A NEW STEERING GEAR WILL BE INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE. THERE WILL BE NO CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE. FORD PROVIDED THE GENERAL REIMBURSEMENT PLAN IN FEBRUARY 2015 FOR THE COST OF REMEDIES PAID FOR BY VEHICLE OWNERS PRIOR TO NOTIFICATION OF A SAFETY RECALL. THE ENDING DATE FOR REIMBURSEMENT ELIGIBILITY IS DECEMBER 1, 2015. FORD WILL FORWARD A COPY OF THE NOTIFICATION LETTERS TO DEALERS TO THE AGENCY WHEN AVAILABLE. Status: 12 - RECALL INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE. Manufacturer Notes: TO CHECK FOR NON-SAFETY-RELATED PROGRAMS APPLICABLE TO YOUR VEHICLE, SEE HTTP://WWW.FORD.COM/OR CALL YOUR FORD DEALER. lonzo71 Posted June 16, 2015 at 01:07 PM Author Report Share Posted June 16, 2015 at 01:07 PM I did a car report and this popped up. I did a search on the forums about it and got nothing so I created a post. If this is somewhere else or too early to post it, please delete or whatever :)
dperreno Posted November 21, 2015 at 02:56 PM Report Share Posted November 21, 2015 at 02:56 PM I brought my FFE in for an oil change and to have a second fob programmed and they performed this repair. It took awhile. I'm in metro Detroit and it is snowing as I type, so probably good that I got this done. jeff_h
murphy Posted November 21, 2015 at 03:49 PM Report Share Posted November 21, 2015 at 03:49 PM I received a recall letter from Ford for that problem in June. There was no mention of parts not being available.Check your Ford Owner account. There have been at least four recalls.
Russael Posted November 21, 2015 at 05:00 PM Report Share Posted November 21, 2015 at 05:00 PM I made a special trip to the dealership last week Tuesday to have all the open recalls repaired. 1. Steering bolt corrosion2. Door Tabs3. PCM Reprogramming (there was one early this year and now there's a new one as of August)4. RCU replacement and reprogramming. They took from 10am to 4:30pm. They told me it wouldn't be ready until the next day, so I had made other plans since I wasn't expecting a call. I wound up picking the car up on Wednesday. Item 4 was done a long time ago because of a failure.
Russael Posted November 21, 2015 at 08:33 PM Report Share Posted November 21, 2015 at 08:33 PM I noticed on Fordowner that there was an indication that the door latch parts were in. I don't recall receiving a paper notice in the mail for it. jeff_h
